Report
Card: Mid-Season (Round 11) - by Dave68 |
Yet another one to be overtaken by youngsters. Continues to run
blindly into packs and shows little peripheral vision. However,
at times during the year, his skills have been good. I remember
the game against Kangaroos, he was the one who speared a pass
to Tarrant’s chest which set up a kick to win the game.
I believe Cole should be let loose in the midfield. Keep encouraging
him to run, we do not want him to loose flare. What he has to
do is look at players like Mark Johnson who tell their opponents
that if they are going to tackle, they will get hurt. Johnson
puts his arms up and marches right on through. Cole has a bigger
build than Byron Pickett, more pace than Mark Johnson and better
skills than Chris Scott. He must develop an angry side to his
game as he could be anything. Yet to show much in 2005 after a
solid pre season.

2005:
Cole continued a consistent season, tackling well and standing up
under the pump in defence. He also polled well in the Copeland Trophy,
and enjoyed a mighty pre-season campaign in 2005, heading towards
a bumper season.
2004:
After being selected in the first round of the 2001 National Draft,
Cole proceeded to play nine games in season 2002.
His first game came against Richmond in round one, where he piked
up four possessions. Despite being overlooked for the finals, Cole
still drove to Adelaide with team mate James Podsiardly to watch the
final against Port Adelaide.
2003 was a solid season for Cole, who improved enough to establish
a spot in the starting 22. But after a mistake ridden Grand Final,
many thought Cole was not up to AFL standard.
With all of the football community watching him, Cole stood out in
2004, claiming the halfback flank position and using his pace and
speed to great effect. Cole is seen as a future leader at the club
and will definitely be around for another ten years.
