Report Card: Mid-Season (Round 11) - by Dave68

Fantastic start to the year and played great games against Carlton and Kangaroos. He is seemingly struggling with a leg injury which has hampered his form. Was very quiet in the win over Hawthorn. However played a great game against Geelong and was very important against West Coast. A true champion. Licuria has taken the role of our number 1 midfielder in the absence of Buckley and has fought very hard. He is not used to this role and may be struggling with the extra attention. However he has a great defensive side to his game. With Buckley back Licuria will only get better. Is 2nd for tackles with 38, and leads the tally for marks and disposals. A vital part of our makeup.

Fan Files: Player Profile: by Johnson#26

2005:
The courageous and wholehearted midfielder, Licuria toiled hard, playing his guts out for the cause – and always wracking up possessions. He starred in round 19 against Fremantle in the unfamiliar position of half forward. Licuria was best on ground in the last round loss to the Blues, winning 30 odd touches.

2004:
Licuria, a Magpie supporter in his junior days, was picked up by Sydney in the 1995 National Draft but suffered multiple knee injuries and was unable to show his full worth in only 4 matches.
At the end of 1998, Licuria was shipped off to Collingwood along with Mark Orchard and made an immediate impression, earning himself a rising star nomination. In 2000, Licuria made himself a favourite of Mick Malthouse by playing all 22 matches and throwing himself into the packs.
His kicking was an area in which he needed to improve in and was often criticised for his ‘turnovers’ by many a Magpie supporter.
In 2001, Licuria improved out of sight, to win his first Copeland Trophy. His kicking vastly improved and his remarkable endurance continued to hold him in good stead as he continually run himself into the ground. If 2001 was good, 2002 was even better from Licuria who backed up his 2001 Copeland trophy by winning a second Copeland Trophy.
He, along with Burns, Buckley and Lockyer, the Magpies engine room, helped propel the Pies to their first Grand Final since that famous day in 1990 when Collingwood took home a flag for the first time in 32 years.
Despite giving his all as usual, Licuria could not stop the Lions charge as the Pies went down by 9 points. The sight of Licuria crying in despair on Malthouse’s shoulder was one of the most moving scenes of modern football.
2003 was a year of revenge, where Licuria again gave his all for the club. He started in magnificent fashion, and playing his 100th game in the process.
Licuria was again a prominent player in the final series but succumbed to the pressure on Grand Final day, as the Pies lost by 50 points. Licuria started 2004 slowly due to a calf injury suffered in the pre-season but soon returned to play a staring role in the side’s season.
