2005:
Lokan’s season ran out of puff after the halfway mark, and was
dropped after 38 weeks in a row in the senior side midyear. Tried
very hard as always, but may have lost ground to a few of his fellow
team-mates.
2004:
After it appeared that Matthew Lokan had been over looked as an AFL
football, he was a surprise recruit at pick 79 from the Port Adelaide
Magpies in the SANFL.
The burly Lokan wasn’t expected to play AFL in season 2003 but
proved his doubters wrong by playing all 25 matches and winning a
Rising Star Nomination.
Lokan’s dash from halfback was a feature, as was his long kicking
into the forward line. Although it appeared he was doing it tough
at times during the year, Mick Malthouse showed faith in Lokan and
it paid off, with Lokan acting as a tagger, claiming the scalps of
Andrew McLeod and Brent Harvey.
In 2004, Lokan was used as a forward to great effect as he often slipped
under oppositions guards for bags of 2 and 3 goals at different stages
of the season. By midseason, Lokan was beginning to tread water and
was used off the bench. |
