2005:
Clement was very good all the way through the season, never giving
away an inch to his opponents. The rugged defender broke his jaw in
the clash against his old side in round 19, continued to play out
the rest of the year. At the season’s end, Clement was rewarded
for his persistence and consistency with All-Australian recognition
and the 2004 Copeland Trophy.
2004:
A sturdy defender from Fremantle, Clement came to Collingwood along
with Brodie Holland at the end of 2000. Clement spent his four seasons
at Fremantle between half forward and half back.
Clement even scored five goals against Essendon in round four 1998
at Waverley Park. In his first season at Collingwood, Clement did
all that he was asked to do as a defender and acted as the general
across halfback. 2002 was Clement’s best season to date, as
he helped the Pies on their way to the Grand Final.
Clement was a rock at halfback all season and was rewarded with selection
in the Australian squad that defeated Ireland at Croke Park.
2003 did not reach the dizzy heights of 2002 but Clement continued
to play consistent football. He became a recognised leader at the
club, and helped the younger defenders develop.
2004 was a bad year for Collingwood but for Clement, it was one of
his best yet. He was again a leader across halfback and by midseason,
he was being touted as possible All-Australian selection.
