Bruce Abernathy coincidently wore the same number as Bucks, number 5. He had a few good years at North before coming to Collingwood, and although he showed flashes of brilliance, never really gave us great value for what we paid for him.

> He was a classy wingman who played for Collingwood in the mid 1980s. He went back to his home state, South Australia, in circa 1987. Unfortunately, he went home when he still had a lot to offer the Collingwood Football Club. He helped form a centreline at Collingwood that looked magnificent on paper: Abernethy Raines Barham. Interestingly, Nathan Buckley (a fellow Port Adelaide player) rated him as the best player he has ever seen in a recent player profile. John Cahill has also said that the best players to come from Port in his era have been Buckley, Wanganeen and Abernethy.
