A touch of poetic licence by the editors.
Quote: | I don't think there is a risk. India has nuclear weapons. I think the reverse in fact is the case - that the more you can get the India nuclear program - civil nuclear program under UN inspections - under the UN protocols of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the better," he said.
"I think that creates a safer and more secure environment for those power stations. That it has got nuclear weapons already, that is a done deal. They don't need Australian uranium for that - they've done it already

Not too sure how I feel about this. India is a lot more stable than pakistan or iran but.......................... _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

As was raised in my Political Science tute today, India is one of three states that has refused to sign the Nuclear non-proliferation treaty (the other two are Pakistan and Israel).
So, by selling uranium to them, we're effectively in breach of that treaty.
Interesting to see how this pans out. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Your heading is incorrect Culprit.

I think you will find Federal Cabinet has approved the selling. They have no morals on this they just love the $$$$$$$$$$
Australia last night ended its ban on uranium sales to India, with senior ministers meeting to reverse a policy of selling the nuclear fuel only to signatories of the NNPT.

Early call.
Wrong call.
I think it's time that this government realizes that it is a Caretaker government and hold these types of decisions till the people have their say.

I wouldn't be too sure of that caretaker government thing.
They've got a lot of seats to win. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

You could use that argument for most things.
Like: We should openly sell criminals guns, because if we don't they will just get them from somewhere else anyway.

Most drug dealers use that argument in court. |

They control both houses of Parliament and will rush it through so their mates ala Rio Tinto will make the big bucks. They will not care about being ousted as they will be looked after by the same blokes when they join the private sector. That is how it works. Just ask Peter Reith to name just one. Rio Tinto are the same people who helped design the AWA's. It's payback time. |
