Post subject: Does MM watch Williamstown games??? | |
|
Because I am from QLD and don't get to see the boys playing in Williamstown, just wondering if MM is seen at games. And if he is how often does he watch the team play. It is OK to get Gotchy's recommendations, but an AFL coach needs to see the players in action. MM knows what it takes to play AFL and his eye for it is as good as most. It is very important that he spends time observing both WIlliamstown seniors and reserves play. _________________ All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

If both clubs are playing in Melbourne on the same weekend, MM is never too far away from the action when Williamstown play.
Bux is also a regular at Williamstown games. _________________ Whale

Well this is good to hear. This brings me to another point. Do you think that playing for Williamstown carries as much pride in the boys compared to the days when the AFL played reserves. Is not their more pride for the players knowing they wear the B&W even for the reserves. I can't say I agree with the way the AFL has disbanded the reserves and Colts comp altogether. I believe they were integral in developing players and giving younger guys the opportunity to play at a higher level. Also who here loved to go down before the main game to watch the reserves play?
I know I did. And it gave me insight as to how certain players were travelling.
The reserves also allows players to develop. Lately we are seeing young guys come into AFL at 18 years of age and if are no good are thrown on the heap even before they are 21. I don't agree with this policy and I believe it is a blight on our great game. Surely the AFL can afford to send two teams interstate when needed. I believe that this will breed stability for clubs and give young guys the time develop. But instead they are thrown into a lower competition and when it comes to the big time they fall short.
I have noticed of late that the skill level of the modern footballer has dropped. They are fitter no doubt. And can run the ditance required but the silky skills that once blessed our great game I believe have depleted. And this is because the ommission of the Reserves and Colts divisions.
For the love of the game AFL stop worrying about profits and give back the kids who want to have a go a decent chance. Because at the moment it is just not happening. _________________ All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.
