Hugh Thomas seconds coach from 1921 to 1939
Thomas shared Mchales single mindedness about man to man combat, and it is impossible to tell with whom the obsession originated. His instructions to players were identical to jocks, 'as long as you beat the man you were minding 'said hughie ,'i'll be satisfied'. Modern comentators seem remarkably unaware that 'tagging' is an old tactic that was temporarily abandoned.Collingwood was always an inovator, and Thomas seems to have devised the strategy of keeping half foward flankers within 15 feet of the boundary line in order to keep corridors open down the centre of the ground. Thanks to him the imaginary 'tram lines' which traversed the length of the ground maintained an uncluttered attack for the collingwood machine.
There was a bitter rival between Mc hale and thomas which led to thomas's demise.
Hugh Thomas would later leave collingwood in 1939 due to a very bitter elections in the same year.

Well there is another two spots on the bench in my team. I guess i was also optimistic in assuming Olarenshaw would make it to the bench.

JLC,
in that side you have 1 glarring omission. Anyone remember Simon Taylor. 21 possies in his first game and written up as a star to be. Never got a kick after that.

Don't knock Walker - if he had've been able to play a full season or 2 we would've won the premiership last year. He was a gun, brilliant player - why do you think we took so many chances on the guy? It's one of the tragedys of football that he couldn't play cause of his knees. Just the way he crumbed off Rocca, and marked like Rocca, made Rocca play better too. My mouth waters -
L.Davis, Tarrant, Molloy
Walker, Rocca, N.Davis
we would've destroyed them this year, absolutely.
Poor boy, I feel sorry for him. All that tallent, and not one good knee.

Brown26, I would like to agree but it was a pathetic decision to leave him on our list so long. I agree that Walker looked like he had talent but enev is talant is open to debate given he never actualy played 1 single full game of quality football. I saw hia 1st game for the pies v Port and at half time I had him BOG. Evidence of talent no doubt but really he never gave anything more than that. He played 2 games for WCE if memory serves me correct and that is nothing to write home about. It is a great pity he couldn't show what he could do but in reality he was never going to be a contributer with his kness as they were and should never have been redrafted. Not his fault, but such is life!

Yeah it's a shame. He was on the list so long cause if he had've been able to play he would've been a champion, better than Carey, at CHF. When he came back he wasn't as good though - lost pace and movement cause of his knees, and he never seemed to have much confidence on them either.

Yes Walker could play i will admit that but the problem was that he never did play. Plus in my team he is on the bench so im taking good care of him.
