not a series, just 1.5 hour doco called three identical strangers.

OMG, so sad, so disgusting, basically a holocaust survivor phycologist in new york got funding for an experiment with twins, and then the triplets. just gobsmacking stuff.

and its all to see if people actually have ..... freewill.

Blue Lights. Season one great, season two great. Ireland is really the place to be at the moment. Half tempted to go back for a stint.

Season 2 of The Responder, set in Liverpool, is brilliant once more. It's one of those shows that's so gritty, and the acting so real, I have to avoid it when I'm feeling down. So, choose your mood carefully with this one.

Reviews seem to have ranged from 5 stars to 3 stars, but don't fall for the lower-end reviews. E.g., this dimwit reviewer forgot that the tone and subject matter ought to play zero role in one's rating.

Quote:
The Responder series two review: Does primetime TV need to be this exhausting and relentlessly gloomy?

Martin Freeman is excellent as an angry, sweary copper – but it’s hard to stomach the darkness of this drama.

If you can stomach the darkness without falling victim to sympathetic dejection, then The Responder has plenty of qualities. Freeman and Adedayo are a likeably human pairing, and the rendering of moonlit Liverpool is loving without being idealised. But does primetime TV need to be this exhausting? “How do you stay awake at night?” Chris asks a petrol-station shopkeeper. “Just, like, restock the crisps and that,” he replies with a shrug. But after an hour in the company of The Responder, it’ll take more than just shuffling the Quavers to stave off your full-body weariness.

Sure, it's grim, but only because Martin Freeman is so frighteningly good in the role. Sometimes I sit and watch people in the grim pockets of some towns and this is part of what you see and hear. It's also what you see and hear in some of the live British copper shows where the cameras follow them on the beat. And Liverpool is the grimmest of the grim, so it is what it is.

Yes, it's a painful watch. It's not everyone's cup of tea and defo don't watch it if you're down on life. But it does what art is supposed to do, namely enable you to experience other worlds. The reality behind this kind of show is exactly why I worry so much about young people growing up in it, rubbish socioeconomic policy that perpetuates it, and the duress that coppers endure in their work facing it everyday.
