I would love to know why we have changed how we man the mark.
Last year we predominantly did this from "outside 5" so we could move side to side and stop the handball to a man running past.
This year we are almost always standing on the mark and have to "stand". This invites fast movement via hand past the player on the mark and havent teams been accepting this invitation. I'm bewildered by the change.

It’s a fine line trying to decide whether to stand the mark or moving outside 5
It all depends how the team is defending further back.
I hate it when we go outside five in our defensive half and give our opponents an opportunity to get deep inside 50s.
What I have noticed this season so far and not just our games but right across the league is umpires are pulling up players to STAND two meters shy of where the mark actually is.

I wonder if we might be a bit gun shy after the ridiculous call against Markov in the Grand Final.

He had about half a second before being called to 'stand'

Also depends on where you are, and how quick you are before the umpire calls 'stand'.

I don't mind the rule, but a 50m penalty for a tiny movement or being 1/2 a second too slow to stand is way too harsh.
They really need to reintroduce the 15m penalty for minor cock ups.
So many rule changes yet this is never considered?

Like the time wasting rule. Just touching the ball over the boundary was a free against.

That went out the window, and so will this new stupid manning the mark rule.

OP is about the apparent change in our team strategy, not the rule or application of it

Agree. Even worse when we forgot about the mark altogether in round 0...

always thought it was a horrible rule. The way it was was perfect where you can step sideways and cut off these easy goals as long as its in line of the mark thats fine. Stop this kicking and playing on from the side just eaay goals for mine and no real skill either.
