Foxfooty.com.au runs through every team’s state of play plus their biggest free agent and contract priorities entering the 2024 season.
COLLINGWOOD
State of play: There isn’t much to be concerned about when you win the premiership — and the good news for the Pies is it’s more a case of players wanting to come to them rather than players wanting to leave. They’ve been linked with Cats winger Max Holmes, who’s slated to come out of contract at the end of 2024. He’s definitely one to watch.
Biggest free agency priorities: The two biggest stars they have in free agency – Scott Pendlebury and Steele Sidebottom – realistically aren’t playing anywhere other than Collingwood, ditto Jeremy Howe at this stage of his career. Both Pendlebury and Sidebottom, who are entering their 19th and 16th AFL seasons respectively, were awesome in the 2023 Grand Final — and you sense they’ll still have a crucial say in the Magies’ bid for back-to-back flags.
Biggest contract priorities: It’s of course worth noting that Nathan Murphy’s immediate priority is his health, rather than his contract that expires at the end of the year. Should he have a confident start to the season, the Pies will be keen to re-sign the versatile defender, who’s one of Collingwood’s most important players from a structural perspective. The premiers have been in the market for another key defender too after making a free agency bid for Tom Doedee — which comes with Howe in his twilight years — so Murphy, assuming he plays consistently throughout 2024, really is a crucial piece for Craig McRae.

I would LOVE this. Would walk right into the team as the ideal replacement for Sidebottom. |
Absofuckinglutely!
And it will only cost ONE first rounder [which we don't have, oops, sorry puddytats], so you'll have to take the same chopped liver selection you gave us for Handbag Henry; them's the breaks youfuckers... _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Ben King set to sign and remain a Suns player going forward. Can cross him off the list.
Other remaining trade targets that have been mentioned on various outlets; Bailey Smith, Max Holmes, and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan all remain unsigned. Max and Bailey seem almost achievable, but getting Jamarra over the line will take something!
Ben Ainsworth as a free agent is another that people have talked about.

Nah. Believe he re-signed. |
A long term, big money deal too. |
It's official now. 5 year deal with Port. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Don’t want Smith or JUH unless they are prepared to take under what Nick and Jordy signed for. So I think that will put paid to that. _________________ Four legged animals good, two legged animals better |

Hmmm... Smith might if rumours are true, and perhaps sign for unders, but doubt Ugle-Hagan will leave the Flogs. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Perhaps my fav player outside of the Pies; little shit he is.
Doubt he could be enticed away from Punt road though. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

I'm sure the drums will start beating around this in latter half on 2024...

How 'bout a trade to the Pies? |
Surely he's UnRFA by now? You'd think we'd be an obvious home for him.
Foxtel scuttlebutt muck-raker has him out the door come trade time....
Imagine if we snaffle him and Bailey Smith to give us some more run in 2025?
I don't care who we have to push out the door to get those three players into the fold next season... _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Let's be honest, our recruiting staff, led by Derek Hine, couldn't spot/draft tall timber talent if it bit them on the proverbial.
It has been an ongoing disgrace how bereft of talent our recruiters have left us in the KPP stakes outside of tall father-son selections the past 15 years. _________________ Est. 2002 |

^ That was McStay, they did get him, for that exact purpose, but long term injury has cruelled him, without him we would not have beaten GWS in that Prelim final, we miss him terribly, now , huge loss, hard too cover. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.
