Yes!
Ok, he is 30. Ok, he is going to miss the first half of the season.
But if he is hungry, if he can come in and at worst offer a depth option at a small fwd/mid, whats the harm in taking him on for 1 season (possibly 2). Its low risk-high reward.
He can get the ball, is a good user of the ball, and is good in front of goal. It would be like getting a new recruit half way through the year. Someone that is ready to play, someone that can play. And the #20 jumper is now available too.
In his last 5 games before the injury;
16 disposals, 2.0, 0 tackles (GWS)
18 disposals, 0.2, 4 tackles (North)
17 disposals, 3.1, 2 tackles (Richmond)
26 disposals, 2.0, 5 tackles (St Kilda)
26 disposals, 0.0, 2 tackles (Collingwood)
The Hawks wont be too fussed that another club will take him. Lets go for it. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Daniel McKenzie played with Moore and De Goey in TAC Cup days. Been delisted by the Saints, but has been disappointing. Doesnt fill a need for the list. But I'll be interested to see if someone jumps on him before the Saints re-rookie him.

Cooper Stephens is another thats been promised to be re-rookied by the Hawks. The Cats had him linked to a future leader of the club and then dropped him like a hot potato in the trade to Hawthorn (which landed us Mitchell).
Is he just no good?

A 197cm, 22yo, Key Defender, former top 10 pick, Victorian, with AFL experience does make you think.
His ten games aren't much to look at though; https://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/F/Fischer_McAsey.html But he is a shut down Presti-type defender after all.
His draft year was 2020, here is his rookieme central bio: https://central.rookieme.com/afl/player/fischer-mcasey/
From what I heard, he didnt handle the lock down seasons well and didnt like being away from the family. But you've also got to think of guys like Jonathan Hay and Tom Boyd. AFL level footy isnt for everyone. It's hard work and a hard lifestyle too. Being at Collingwood could be even harder for those that want to escape the pressure. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

McAsey is an animal, soars and cracks packs, we better be all over him, it's a real need and our window is now. _________________ Flagpies |

Craig Kelly mentioned in October the notion of short-term recruits coming in and making an impact. Any recruitment of Wingard aligns itself to this notion. He is the type of player like Stewart Dew that could be a handy July-September 2024 pickup. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

YES! If he was willing - a 2 year contract to play for 18 months (after he's fit again) could be the spark we need next September. Or maybe he plays in the twos for 18 months, who knows, but if we dont take him we wont know. And he's going to be better for longer than anyone we take at pick 80. Convince him!

I'm led to believe by a reliable source that we had Wingard, but he got cold feet at 4:59. Put a line through his name now. |

Surely it's more calculated than that? unless Hawks offered 2 years he'd be crazy at his age not to take the extra year with a club in the window. _________________ Flagpies |

^ might his ego have got in the way? He'd need to push aside Hill, Elliott, Schultz or McCreey to earn a regular spot on a HFF (Johnson at a push), so perhaps he's thinking there's more guarantee of games at the Hawks as opposed to a mix of senior and VFL at the Pies?
But his 2013 & 2015 AA form is a long time ago and multiple soft tissue injuries ago.
Undoubtedly his best is by far good enough, but one of the above would need to make way and he'd need to have a great run with injury.
As it stands with his injury, he's a 2025 prospect given he'll have a compromised pre-season. You might get away with being underdone against the lower teams, but not against the top 4 when the whips are cracking. He'll be firmly in the twilight of his career by the end of 2025. Suspect we can keep that spot open for someone more suitable. _________________ "The Club's not Jock, Ted and Gerry" (& Eddie)

^^In my view we've dodged a bullet. Sure he has experience on his side and his best is really good. Age and injury mean we are taking a gamble. That to me says there is not much in the draft on offer at later picks. |

Perhaps but he'd only have to look at Ginny and Frampton to see what can happen with a club in the window even if you aren't best 23. _________________ Flagpies |

Along with Kruger, that would be two pack-crash-bash merchants on our list!
