At the risk of provoking a response (be a good thing), but not wishing to provide anyone any pain (bad).

Im thinking that honesty and education across society is the best and only way to dramatically reduce the frequency and emotional impact of these incidents.

We need honesty from people about their historical sexual thoughts and behaviours for collecting hard data.

The results can be discussed at school and normalised, so that the young are empowered and prepared.
Most watch a lot of porn from a much earlier age then before.

Believe it or not young people can be manipulative.
Laws need to adjust, its a matter of time.

And no, I don't want this discussed at school, that is highly inappropriate, no one but the parent has the right to decide when their child is ready for subjects like that. Not sure of its relevance to the thread, but there's little that the judge said there that was wrong in theory (whether it was appropriate given the case at hand is something I can't say for sure without reading the court transcript).

He was talking about adult incest, not child abuse. Surely any critically thinking person would agree that what consenting adults get up to in the bedroom isn't the law's business, and it's simply a stupid historical anachronism that adult siblings are still considered to be law-breakers in such situations. I understand the concept of historical abuse/exploitation, but surely the onus of proof that something like that has actually happened is on the courts.

A terribly misleading and irresponsible headline, really. At no point did he "equate" homosexuality with anything (although it's clear that a lot of people are of the misguided opinion that to compare and to equate are the same thing).

While his letter was pretty screwed up and demonstrative of a disturbing lack of remorse, I wonder if the media need to take some responsibility here. Any distress that the letter causes his victims could have been averted if the tabloids hadn't decided to run with it (or the recipient hadn't gone to the press in the first place). Is there really any public interest here?

As for the NSW law, I'd have to see the detail, but I can't help but suspect that this is just a cynical 'law and order' manoeuvre by a state government looking to score some easy points. Is there anything to suggest that the existing laws were insufficient or that these new proposals will serve as a deterrent?

I'm all for reform of outdated laws that overlooked victims' suffering or minimised crimes. But I find it hard to believe that such a law on sexual abuse could exist in Australia in 2015.
