Awesome stuff Jo, you won’t regret it.

My mum has finally got hearing aids but like you only wanted to start with the cheap ones. She does notice the difference compared to without them but complains it amplifies the noise.

But the massive improvement in technology in the 23 years I’ve had hearing aids is phenomenal and so much better.

Luckily for me the previous Federal Government kept increasing the funding so what used to cost me $3,000 each for subsidised hearing aids 10 years ago now cost nothing.

Next year I’ll be off that program and on to NDIS, but NDIS so far has been great. I don’t use it anywhere near as much as I can but buy all the TV streamers and microphones etc to go with it for nothing. Even got a ring doorbell package!!!

But the phone streaming is the greatest, mine are made for iPhone so guess I’m stuck with iPhones!!!

My sympathies, iPhones suck, I hate them, but good to see you're getting some benefit from the NDIS like Jo.

Cheers Eddie, I love that I can talk through them for calls, so clear! And being able to adjust stuff on the iPhone app is great.

Tell your mum I said these don’t amplify the sound as much as they clarify it, which is what I need. When you can actually hear you get used to that level as normal. I drove my car without term, when I got back in with them I lowered the volume quite a bit, so I’m at the same level I used to listen too but I can understand the words if that makes sense, honestly I wish I had done it a lot earlier now

I can relate to your experience, TP. It's easy to spend years somehow getting by on part or disrupted functioning, and just accepting it. In my case I did so with one thing for most of my life and internalised the embarrassment at the same time. So, instead of someone helping me with the problem, I ended up with two problems, i.e., the condition itself and the internalisation.

Still more than a bit upset, frankly, that absolutely no one — family, friends, teachers, doctors — bothered to notice.

Anyhow, better late than never, I guess.

Oh with me they noticed, too many made no effort or cracked jokes at my expense! I am an extremely social person, and I get along with most people, although I no longer tolerate assholes, as my filter has really improved! And I quite simply realised I was missing out. I’m not doing that anymore, now it’s time for me.

I’m sorry you went through what ever shit it was, life is too short to put up with it, cheers

This must have been extremely hard for you. That is tough when you don’t have much support from family.

^Thanks, both.

Eddie, thank goodness they finally provided proper funding.
