Post subject: 2023 A 5 man bench | |

On a trade program Gary Lyon asked Steve Silvani how Brody /Max would work at Melbourne
SOS said the likely event of 5 on the bench may assist sides to play two ruck men
That’s interesting if teams have 5 on the bench —I had not heard about it
Anyone has ??? _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Maybe he has some inside knowledge, or was just guessing that that might be a development at some stage? I don't see why the AFL would do it (given the medisub has been relatively successful), but given that tinkering with the rules is an annual event for them I suppose we shouldn't be surprised if it does come to pass. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

It would definitely provide more scope to play 2 ruckmen. Cox and Cameron could be a good ruck combination for the next 4 yrs. |

5 on the bench and a sub?
Better update all the team of the century teams then. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Trade Talk on SEN with Lyon / Watson talking to Steve Silvagni is where I heard it
SOS actually said “There is talk about 5 on the bench”

Not sure that hearing the voices in his head counts as ‘talking’ 🗣 _________________ I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️ |

Well the medi sub rule was abused by many sides this year, why not just make them an extra on the bench |

AFL are looking at a new configuration
Currently we have 4 on the bench plus an injury sub
The possibilities of change are
4 on the bench plus a general substitute
Or simply straight out 5 on the bench _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Wouldn't be an AFL off-season without more unnecessary tinkering...
Personally, I don't have a problem with the current injury sub policy (which seems to have been brought in for a clear purpose and to be mostly working as planned?!), but would be fine with five on the bench if that's the direction they go in. Otherwise, I really did hope we'd seen the last of the old sub rule, so hopefully we're not going to see a return to that. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Leave it alone, except for Fly's little wrinkle that if one team activates their medi-sub, the other can too - without a medical reason to do so. |
