In times of scary world events, pandemics and even terrorist threats, people tend to stick with the devil they know, like hugging toy bears when stressed. _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Quote: | This Saturday we’ll be a year out from the next Victorian election. But if two opinion polls released in recent days are any guide, you can call the result now: despite everything, they report, the Andrews government is on track for a second landslide win, as big or bigger than in 2018.
Ignore all the frustrations bursting out on the streets of Melbourne, on talkback radio and on the letters pages of Murdoch’s Herald Sun — and right now, of the Age as well. The polls tell us that if an election were held today, Victorians would re-endorse the man the Murdoch empire calls “Dictator Dan” with a thumping majority.

Really? So two of the most tumultuous years in Victoria’s recent history have left the electorate unmoved? So unmoved it proposes an exact replica of the status quo? |
I'm honestly surprised – not because I thought the Liberals' were necessarily on track to victory, but I really did think that Andrews would have taken some hit, particularly with migrant groups who traditionally vote Labor but who may have been fed up with the COVID-19 response (my own anecdotal observation is that the local Russian community – who, admittedly, do tend anti-vaxx and more socially conservative – is very anti-Andrews right now). |
It’s probably wise not to read too much into opinion polls. That said, he’s been well ahead for some time and had started to gain rapidly in the internal Lib polling - hence their leadership change. The problem the Libs have at present is that they court support from (and indeed have allowed into Parliament through their preselection processes) various fringe idiots with views wholly unacceptable to light-sensitive entities. Most moderate people are presented with two alternative narratives - one counsels the need for caution in uncertain times and the other would have us believe that the cautionary measures are the first step onto a slippery slope that will lead to the end of the universe as we know it. Only one of those narratives is viable. The Libs can easily get elected in Victoria next time around (there is plenty of raw material to work with) - but only if slightly sensible views start escaping from their mouths. |

There is ample raw material to work with, the trick will be not just harnessing support of those dislike Andrews methods and approach, but trying to chip of some of the rusted on who haven't yet been welded.
I expect more informal and independents unless Guy can present a compelling narrative. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Back to Dan's leadership.....
Quote: | Premier Daniel Andrews has been secretly grilled by Victoria’s anti-corruption watchdog as part of an investigation that has found the Labor Party’s culture is rotten and encouraged the serious misuse of public resources.
The conclusions of Victoria’s Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission will shake not only state Labor but the federal opposition, given that several federal Labor MPs and shadow ministers are key players in the factions that IBAC has identified as unethical. |

An official report, albeit preliminary, that says the culture of an organisation is rotten, is pretty damning.
Federal Labor tries to slam Morrison (correctly) for avoiding responsibility and shifting blame, he's an amateur compared to Teflon Dan. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Anyone else noticed that Dan couldn't work with Gladys but seems joined at the hip to Dom Perrottet? _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
