Kennett is a diehard Hawthorn supporter.

Limits are fine for board members, not the President though. If we get someone good enough, they should be able to be Pres as long as they have the support of the members.

Artificially losing someone brilliant because they've hit an arbitrary limit is self-defeating.

The ideal shelf life of a President is 6-10 years, with a maximum of 12 years. Changing the leader after a period of time allows for renewal and fresh ideas rather than letting it get stale.

No serious or healthy organisation (sporting or non-sporting) has one person running the show for 20+ years.

Yep. There's no professional organisation that would let someone stay on for decades. People who think an organisation needs them to run the show for life are suffering from the messiah complex. They don't just get stale. They start making more and more mistakes and being less and less accountable.

I think either Mark Korda or Peter Murphy will be our next President. I'm not too fussed who gets the job, as long as they play a low key role, allowing those employed by the club to do their jobs without board interference.

Collingwood has announced Mark Korda and Peter Murphy as interim co-presidents while they search for Eddie McGuire’s successor. A decision on a more permanent appointment will be made in about eight weeks.

Decision should be coming soon.

It's two months today since the interim arrangement was announced.

163 years of male presidents at Melbourne Football Club came to an end

They selected a female president.

Would we -could we

Wouldn’t be nice if these elites gave the paying membership a say? The idea must have them having nervous convulsions! A democratic member driven choice for our President. Oh my god that can never be in these times! Can’t have the members deciding important issues. They are just dumb halfwits who keep paying each year. Treat us like fools! No more . 2022 is my last year unless there is big change .

There are plenty of serious and healthy organisations that have the same leader for that long. Rupert Murdoch, Warren Buffet, Gina Rinehart. Jeff Bezos is closing in on 20 years, don't see him losing control of Amazon anytime soon.

Changing for the sake of it, when you have an extraordinary leader, is foolish. I'm afraid we're going to spend the next half-a-decade or so learning that lesson the hard way. Again.

^ Fair points, but I don’t think McGuire was an extraordinary leader towards the end of his tenure. From 1998 all the way through to the 2000s, he was excellent for us. The last decade hasn’t been so good.

He’s overseen a lot of the troubles we’re experiencing now. The club needed a fresh reset. Of course change comes with risks, but sticking with McGuire for several more years wasn’t a solution in my opinion.

My only disappointment is I wish McGuire had the opportunity to see out the year as originally intended once he announced he was departing. The circumstances of his sudden resignation in February will leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

I think the further away we get away from this phase in our clubs history the clearer it'll be to see that most of it was a complete shambles, Eddie did good, early, and no one doubts his heart is in the right place (mostly) but have no doubt this is most likely one of the lowest points in our clubs history.

Does the next President really need to be a leader of industry? I for one don't want any of the present incumbents. Surely someone that has leadership qualities, the passion for our club and the presence to keep the CEO, Coach, Staff etc accountable is what we need - just throwing this out there but what about one N Maxwell?
