And the really good news is that the current state of emergency that allows the lockdowns, compulsory masks etc finishes in 4 weeks and the cross benchers aren't likely to vote to extend it.

That would mean, this was the last lockdown and no more masks, anywhere.

The government has had 6 months to intrduce legislation to allow them to manage pandemics without needing to declare a state of emergency, similar to how NSW is able to operate, but of course the most incompetent collection of politicians in the country, haven't.

I really thought Mrs WPT would have kicked up at having to wear that Dan Andrews mask a long time ago. Razz

She doesn't need to wear the mask, just the North Face jacket...the rest is left to WPT's imagination Laughing Laughing Wink Wink

The US has today passed 500,000 COVID deaths since the start of the pandemic. More than half of those deaths have occurred since the presidential election on 3 November (on that date, under 240,000 people in the US had died of the disease). At its peak (26 January 2020), the 7-day rolling average of new deaths was 3,449 deaths per day.

In better news, the 7-day rolling average of new cases per day in the US (presently 82,841 per day) is down to a level not seen since October 2020. At its peak (10 January 2020), the 7-day rolling average of new cases was over 255,000 new cases per day.

Still scary numbers, a couple of days ago I looked and there definitely has been a fairly steep continuous drop, which is great

https://abcnews.go.com/US/covid-19-cases-hospitalizations-continue-massive-drop-january/story?id=75896236

Not as great in South Carolina, redneck city!

Are you sure about those January 2020 dates?

Meanwhile a crash-back-to-earth reality check for the paranoid loopy brigade who are walking around yelling that this is the worst, most incompetent state government ever.

This is to look at the alternative. Oh my god, what a bunch of hopelessly weirded-out anti-vaxer conspiracy theory psychos. Their latest trick is to claim that the successful lockdown just completed in Victoria was "nothing to do with a virus". We are not talking about a lone nutter here either, there are numerous Liberals in the State Parliament right now endorsing anti-vax conspiracy theories, claiming that Trump actually won in America, and all the rest of it.

It is rumoured that two of them post here, but I don't think that's right. The Nicksters widely suspected of being those Liberal Party wackos are (in my opinion) probably just bots reposting whack job thought bubbles.

Another beautiful day up here North of the border in the land of the free, with no Covid cases in the community and 32 days since the last local case.

I had to go to Cobram quickly at lunch time and I'll confess it was with some trepidation that I re-entered The People's Republic of Danistan.

The locals response to the mask wearing edict seemed to being interpreted a little individually. Walking the streets, some people were wearing them, some weren't and others were wearing them as a chin strap.

Similarly, in the 3 different shops I ducked into, 1 of the staff in 1 shop was wearing a mask, the other staff weren't and none of the staff in the other 2 shops were. I wore mine while in the shops, I'd left it in the care so I couldn't forget it.

Generally a bit of common sense being displayed, hopefully for them the glorious leader doesn't hear of it, he doesn't like free thought.
