the good thing about fruit picking is that your weekly pay correlates directly your own productivity.

However what you ignore is the elephant in the room (elephants):
Base rate is poor
Conditions even poorer
A lot get appalling accommodation and they put quite a few in a room together
Multiple examples of forced long hours, appalling exploitation and in some instances abuse is not uncommon.
Withholding of money is also not uncommon
