^Roughly interpreted, the position is "Look at all these dead people from the virus - that's the ALP's fault and we absolutely must open up now". |

Well it is the ALPs fault and yet they continue to devise their own strategy and then deny its their strategy.
But I’m not sure why anyone would give them a pass when you see every other state and territory living it up and even Regional Victoria finally allowed back to some form of normality, yet metro Melbourne remains locked up with the sort of numbers others states have been able to control without strict lockdowns.
Then if 3 people get sick they lose their minds amid fears another wave is about to run out of control... |

Fact is, Eddie, the clear majority of people approve of the Andrews Government and the polls have Victorian Labour well in front.
(You could, however, make a good argument that this has little to do with the quality of the current government and a lot to do with the chaotic state and appalling behaviour of the Victorian opposition.) _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

"The United States surpassed eight million known cases this past week, and reported more than 70,000 new infections on Friday, the most in a single day since July. Eighteen states added more new coronavirus infections during the seven-day stretch ending on Friday than in any other week of the pandemic.
In Europe, cases are rising and hospitalizations are up. Britain is imposing new restrictions, and France has placed cities on “maximum alert,” ordering many to close all bars, gyms and sports centers. Germany and Italy set records for the most new daily cases. And leaders in the Czech Republic described their health care system as “in danger of collapsing,” as hospitals are overwhelmed and more deaths are occurring than at any time in the pandemic."

Intervening weekend:
It's now less about numbers than about the stories behind the numbers - qualitative, rather than the numbers.
Confident that by 1 November, we will be able to open up as Premier says but if in next week there are constant low numbers etc, Premier hopes to be able to make further announcements to bring forward the 1 November changes. "Some optimism" we might be able to bring the 1 November changes forward. |

Not everything everybody wanted is in these announcements. Have announced what is safe. If we could do more, safely, we would. |

The Grand Final:
Your household and only your household. You can't have friends over. Can't pretend it's over because we want it to be.
No barbecue with friends....

Extracts from the ABC blog:
Quote: | From 11:59pm on Sunday, November 1, in regional Victoria
Non-contact indoor physical recreation for under 18 -year-olds, for instance dance classes, will be allowed again with a maximum of 20 people.
Non-contact indoor community support for under 18 -year-olds with limits on spectators, that will be allowed again also. |
Quote: | Travel allowed for fire and flood prevention measures of homes in regional Victoria
With the memories of last year's bushfire season still fresh, Premier Dan Andrews said people from metropolitan Melbourne who have a second property in regional Victoria will be allowed to travel to that property, solely for the reason of fire or flood managment.
Mr Andrews said it was not a reason to spend a few days in regional Victoria. Permits will be required and it will be monitered by authorities.
"If you have a property in regional Victoria, and you want to travel to that property and you are in metropolitan Melbourne, to make it ready for either flood or fire, the usual activity that goes on in October/November every year, there will be a process in consultation with your local council from Wednesday next week to go and do those important works.
"It will be upon the issuance by your council of a fire prevention notice that legally requires you to go and do the work.
"This is not an invitation to go and have a couple of days in regional Victoria and essentially move into regional Victoria without due reason. It is where you have a fire prevention notice, that letter of support from your council will also be with instructions from Victoria Police and the Chief Health Officer that the restrictions that apply and the rules that apply in Melbourne will travel with you when you go to your fire-prone second property.
"Whatever it may be … do the necessary work, whether it be around flood because we do have the bureau is forecasting significant rainfall activity throughout the next couple of months.
"I will not go to through too much on that, we will put up the information so people have detail well ahead of Wednesday but this has been an issue that has been raised consistently and we have listened and we have a framework around it but I stress again it is not an invitation for people who really do not have fire clean-up to do or flood preparedness to do to use this as an opportunity to travel to regional Victoria." |
