We have too much crumble: we grow our own rhubarb and the best crumble in my humble opinion is Mrs WPT’s Apple and rhubarb crumble. She’s been making it since we first met 2 score years and some 😉

I just had this yearning to bake an apple pie. I have no idea why.

Hmmm, ok you didn’t mention the rhubarb before! That’s a good old English game changer!

After not eating or drinking a carb, sugar or alcohol for 27 days, tonight I'm having Pizza and red wine.

Nice. That’s how it starts: first it was chocolate Big M’s then before you know it it’s heroin. Wink

Enjoy. I’m at work till 22:30 so finishing off the meatballs in tomato sauce on top of steamed cauliflower and zucchini

I've gone off apple pies, though if Mrs WPT was to offer me a slice, she wouldn't have to ask twice!

Three reasons:

(1) I was getting a bit tubby eating too many of them.

(2) I've moved* and don't have access to the same beautiful apples, at least not until a few young trees grow on a bit.

(3) I've gone a bit gonzo on savory pies and pie-like dishes: shepherd's pie, cottage pie, beef pie with wine and mushrooms, and a delicious un-named thing of my own invention made in layers starting with tomato and onion and fennel and capsicum. Into that, press slices of pumpkin or sweet potato. Sprinkle generously with very finely diced corned silverside toasted with garlic, crushed pepper, and a little red chilli. Spoon on mashed potato, top with grated cheese. Press several depressions into the spud. Into each one, break a whole duck egg. (Or chicken egg if you don't have ducks.) Sprinkle with more cheese and bake until the egg whites are firm - about 25 min.

* This may be a world first. I don't think anyone, not in the entire history of the known universe, has ever before complained about a scarcity of apples after moving to the Huon Valley.

Cheers David. For you the hardest part could be getting council permission to keep ducks in your bathtub. Smile

PS: Try not to get the yellow rubber ones. They are poor layers. Though, to be fair, they are not as messy.
