Yes, we also know that getting out in a T20 is a bit of a lottery, too, don't we? Don't we? |

We do, but if they slog in the 20th over and get caught on the boundary at long on, it looks okay, doesn't it?
When their defective technique is ruthlessly dismantled in obviously batsmen-friendly conditions (all T20s are), then it's different.
FTB Smith was not trying to play an attacking shot against Pattinson. He just could not defend with his defective technique.
Zampa bowled 7 balls to FTB Smith. FTB played 3 of them safely. One other was a miscue that dropped safely. Two were missed chances, including the first ball. One was the ball that finally ended his misery. That's nothing to do with slogathon slogging. When you can only play 42% of balls safely in easy batting conditions, it's worse than a tailender. |

India 6/89 (35.1)...
and 6/90 (36) at stumps, day 2, a lead of 97.
............................
This is what happens when there is a teeny weeny bit of help for the bowlers. Modern batsmen, whatever the country, whatever the myths (and no matter how loudly hysterical fans scream those myths -- sadly, the most hysterical screaming of myths seems to come out of Oz and maybe England, not out of India, NZ, etc.), just crumble. Modern batsmen have no Test technique.
India have Jadeja still to come in at 9 (bumped down by the nightwatchman), and he averages over 35 in Test cricket, so it feels like India have stacked their batting. They may need all of it. (Jadeja's bowling average is under 25, so the old rule of thumb says he should be taken very seriously as an allrounder.)
............................
S. Monga, cricinfo:
"There was a bit of everything to enjoy for bowling enthusiasts: Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah looked unplayable for three hours with their seam and swing, Trent Boult swung the ball, Tim Southee used the surprise bouncer, Colin de Grandhomme mixed swing and seam, and Neil Wagner and Kyle Jamieson found disconcerting bounce."
I. Chappell:
"New Zealand, much like England's seaming surfaces, is a place where caution is required more often than in Australia, where most pitches are extremely true. Whatever the cause, at the Basin Reserve it was an abysmal batting effort from the No. 1-ranked Test team, who failed to reach 200 in either innings."
[Yep, and the FTB conditions in Oz are not helping Oz batsmen play overseas, which is part of the reason why Oz's overseas Test performance is abysmal.] |

As things stand, India probably can't win by more than 50 runs. |
