Post subject: DID our Magpies recruit well, or OK, in the off season ?? | |
|
IM not sure if we did, or didn't, like many, I was too pre occupied with the saga of Grundy re signing, Jamie Elliott staying, Mason Cox and his eyes, and De Goey and his trials and tribulations. !
So, did we recruit ok or what, who did we get, and any promising young kids did we get ?? Did we at the very least, recruit one indigenous young player ?? _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

If you look at the CFC website and the player profiles we recruited absolute stars - each and every one of them!

All of them can play tall, small, fast, slow and every position on the ground irrespective of actual height and skills.
I'm led to believe, strongly, that at least one of them had once seen an Indigenous person, in real life at a range of less than 10 metres, but none of them are Indigenous. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Well according to the Collingwood FC twitter, the 4pm Press conference titled 'Pies in the Media' featured Corey Enright and Joel Selwood.
Guess we did pretty well landing those two for nothing _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

The first names that came to mind were Buckley and Anthony Rocca.
(But maybe that's because Buckley's picture is in the post above.) |

What's your definition?
Beams had been top 10 in the past 2 Brownlow's and a club captain before joining us.
Treloar was a pre-selected draftee (probably would have been top 3), was targeted by Richmond and had the most possessions in the AFL in 2019.
I'd say both qualified to meet your criteria.
We've been a regular finals participant and our players become sought after and therefore we have to pay a reasonable amount to keep them. Very few top performing clubs have the ability to bring in very expensive talent in the way Lynch went to Richmond or Dangerfield to Geelong or Buddy to Sydney (which had a salary cap advantage). Most of those deals don't see players on the open market in the way Lynch was paraded either.
As for whether we have pulling power, I think that guys like Mason Cox selecting us shows we have pulling power still. There were about 6 clubs lining up for his signature at the time. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

Didn’t Graeme Teasdale play one good quarter during his dozen odd games with us ?
I don’t necessarily think you have to land a big fish to be any better, you just have to land the right player to complement the rest of your group.
There have probably been none bigger than Judd, Dangerfield, Ablett and Buddy in recent times and not one premiership between the four of them at their second club ( or in Abletts case, second or third club )
Landing an established superstar is no ready made recipe to ultimate glory and also financially investing very heavily in one player can be problematic.
I’m not against it either but I believe the decision to sign off on an established superstar under today’s cap restrictions isn’t as cut and dry as it may first appear. It’s all a balancing act. |

I took it Pnc meant recruit an existing VFL/AFL player, not draft someone.
Athas Hrysoulakis does not barrack for the Pies now, so I guess it's okay for WPT to butcher his name. |
