Mahomes is trying hard but he hasn't set anything on fire, yet.
End of the third. 10 unanswered points to the 49ers has them in control, by the looks of things. |

Mahomes was driving his team back into it but Tyreek Hill just coughed the ball up for an INT. That might th end of the Chiefs' Super Bowl, right there. They must hold the 49ers scoreless here - or they are done. |

They do hold and then Mahomes throws for 44 yards on a 3rd and 15. They are at the 49ers' 20. Still 10 points behind and only 6 and a bit minutes to go.
Kelce in for the TD after a defensive PI call spotted the ball at the 1 yard line. 20:17, 49ers lead. Again, the Chiefs' D has to hold the 49ers. |

They do hold - and the Chiefs have now advanced to the 49ers’ 10. A big completion, there.
Mahomes runs it five yards. 5 to go to take the lead. He’s stopped at the 6, this time. And then he makes the pass to Williams for the go ahead TD, subject to a review to see whether he got to the line before his right foot just went out of bounds. This will be tight.
The ruling stands! Kansas City leads 24 to 20 after the extra point. Can they hold again? If they do, they’ll win. 2.44 to go. |

Two-minute warning. 2nd and 7 on their own 35 - but the 49ers have all three timeouts intact. This will go to the wire. |

And they’re up to the Chiefs’ 49. 1.49 to go.
Jimmy G’s next pass is batted down. And they his follow up is almost an INT.
3rd and 10. He airs it out but overthrows Sanders. And then he’s taken out on 4th and 10. The Chiefs can taste it, now. The 49ers’ D must get a 3 and out. |

And Williams runs into Super Bowl immortality with a big rushing TD. 31:20. 38 yards!
And the Chiefs have 3 TDS in the final quarter. 1.12 to go.
Under a minute, now and the Chiefs have picked Jimmy G off - he had to go big but his receiver was double covered. Andy Reid will get his Super Bowl ring after all these years.
Mahomes 26 of 41 for 286 yards. 2 TDS. 2 INTs. One a bit unlucky. Is he the MVP? |

5 seconds. Here’s the fake punt on 4th and 26 and there is no time for the 49ers.
Chiefs are the Champions 31:20. They scored 21 to nothing in the last 6 minutes. Andy Reid gets a Super Bowl with his 222nd career coaching win. |

Other Chiefs standouts - Hill with 105 and Watkins with 98 receiving yards. Travis Kelce with 49 in close and a TD. Darren Williams with 29 receiving yards and104 rushing yards and a TD receiving, as well as a TD rushing.
Looking at the stats, Mahomes also had that rushing TD to go with the 2 he threw.
The Australian lad Wishnowsky punted twice for 86 yards for the 49ers, gaining 43 with each.
Perhaps they’ll truly honour Mahomes by giving the MVP in the Super Bowl to someone else, like they did in 1997 to the greatest QB who ever took the field. |

Here’s the presentation of the Green Bay Trophy.
Super Bowl LIV MVP goes to Patrick Mahomes. He is now the youngest player ever to be NFL MVP (last season) and Super Bowl MVP. He’s almost as good as Grundy. |

It seems that the 49ers’ mistake might have been to get a double-figure lead. Mahomes was 5 and 0 for the season when his team got at least 10 points behind. And 3:0 in the playoffs.
Now, there’s a spurious stat for you. |

The Super Bowl in 54 Seconds
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/03/sports/football/super-bowl-video.html
"The Super Bowl is a windfall for both the N.F.L. and for the corporations who burn wagons full of money on commercials. What is more American than that?
Well, Budweiser will tell you that drinking beer is more American than that, but that’s besides the point. The actual game was a win for the Kansas City Chiefs over the San Francisco 49ers, 31-20, with a comeback that included three touchdowns in the final quarter."
[I'm a bit unsure about the title. Help me out, Nicksters! Does it mean it should take the reader 54s to read the article, or ...? Does it take you that amount of time?]
"6:25 p.m. — It was a gracious move by Bill Belichick to save his yearly smile for when he flashed his rings during the N.F.L. 100 pregame celebration, as a chorus of boos rained down on him."
[Pantomime villain? Honestly, this description ("save his yearly smile") made me think of Geoff W.! If only he could flash Collingwood premiership flags...] |

I didn’t watch the NFL Honors presentation live, so I didn’t see Lamar’s suit until a minute ago. I have to say it was just brilliant - everyone should own a Lamborghini that colour. It looked like it was 1973 again! |
