On 97, Gilchrist square drives for 4. Excellent knock.
--------------------------------
Goes past the 120 with a six. Did you see him look up as if to say, "That's for you, Donny" Thanks, mate. _________________ Donny.

Donny, if you watch closely when Marto reaches 50, he quickly flipped "the bird" and muttered something under his breath about JLC that the stump-mic couldn't quite capture....

He was probably thanking his good mate Ponting for ensuring he was picked in the team after a 2 year absence without a century.
Last night he did produce some great strokes which i didnt think he was capable of. The challenge will be producing big scores on a consistent basis.
Looks like Gilly enjoys coming in early to settle in against the quicks. I think the Lankans waited to long before they introduced spin against him.

" ... didn't think he was capable of" ?? Don't you have a TV, JLC ?
That's how he plays. Over 40 Tests he averages 47. With all the failures you highlight, he must have had some very good big innings in there.
I didn't see you calling for sacred Sachin's head when it was only the great form of Dravid and Laxman that allowed India to carry him through what you called a form slump. Do you realise Tendulkar has 69 scores of 20 or under in his Test career ?
And as far as Gilly being 'played in' by the quicks. It was those same two quicks who had just dismissed Langer and Hayden - both lefties and both for under 10. _________________ Donny.

I'm glad they are making me eat my words!
If they could only do this in the 1st innings then we wouldn't have to worry.
Great knock Gilly, enjoyable to watch when he's firing on all cylinders... _________________ Ohhhh the premierships a cakewalk for the good old COLLINGWOOD |

Maybe i didnt make it transparent enough but that was a compliment for Gilchrist. He is better suited facing fast bowling first up than spin. Steve Waugh was the same as well. It was a good and positive move by the Australians to bump him up the order. At least when facing spin he had his eye in that way.
Martyn had gone two years without a century and its not like the Australians do not play many tests. I dont think it is asking too much for a top 4 batsman in the line up to make centuries after all thats what he is there for. If Martyn had 20 or 30 test centuries to his name he could be excused as he would have had a proven track record ie Hayden should be allowed a form slump as he has been Brilliant and one of the best batsman for the last couple of years.
Tendulkar may have quite a few low scores but when he does get a start he goes on with it and converts them into centuries. After all thats the name of the game. Too often Martyn will make a pretty 40, 50, 60 or 70 but then not go on and turn it into a century. Thats what good batsman do they get a start and convert them into 100's
Yes i do have a tv. You may like to inform me that when PRIOR to this tour has Martyn played some of the drives like he did against Murali against other spin bowlers ?? They were very impressive strokes that i had not seen before or maybe my tv has been on the blink.

Interesting that Gilly is dismissed at the START of the day facing SPIN when he probably hasnt got his eye in. The Sri Lanakns were one day too late with that move.....lol

Hopefully Martyn converts his score into a century seeing he is well set...........One would think a lead of 250 runs would be plenty imo.
