This is astonishing. A billion birds slaughtered by cats in less than 3 years. |

I used to have a dog who looked a little like that. German Shepherd x Lab with maybe a touch of great dane in the genes. He could jump and take a stick out of my hand at full extension which is just about 2.4m.
He didn't like cats. After I had to send him to live with my parents up bush, he cleaned up the strays within about a block radius. Frequently when taking him for a walk, my dad would have to wrestle a dead cat from his mouth once they got home and put it in the bin. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Same model, different shirt... (Hmmm... I think they may have just photoshopped the different shirt design on the above pic.)

^ And the square in the second pic is very straight-edged and two-dimensional looking. Not a very convincing job they did.

^ So your peace and quiet is worth more than billions of native fauna being killed, with species going extinct?
People actually can and do complain about barking, though I personally think this is only remotely reasonable if it's in the middle of the night. |

Yeah nah, I’ve tried everything except debarking to stop my poodle Molly barking, she just likes barking. She is like a little machine gun. Thankfully she has improved with age. But if I had to listen to it all day I’d go nuts. My own beloved dog!
Years ago I approached the bitch across the street and said can you please keep your cat in at night because it’s sits on my bedroom window sill at night. And she says well your dog wakes me up, me ITS Barking at your CAT! I stuck a council cage on the front lawn, she got the message! No more cat at night.
I guess with everything, people come first. They stopped dogs roaming to protect people from dog bites and dog poo! Not a bad thing. Now the laws for cats need enforcing. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

When you see those posters about missing cats, it’s kind of heartbreaking to think that people would be out deliberately trying to kill them. I understand the ecological argument for culling, but how we treat animals will say a lot about our society. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Agreed. That's why you kill them humanely.
It also says something about how peoples reaction depends on cuteness and the perceived notion of pets.
I wouldn't see anyone up in arms about trying to eradicate cane toads, which are just another introduced species causing environmental damage, but not as much as cats. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Toads are also vastly less complex and intelligent animals. One reason we feel worse about killing or hurting cats is that we feel closer to them (same with dogs) and can communicate with them, etc. So to slaughter them feels much crueller and more transgressive – it feels closer to killing a person.
The real hypocrisy, of course, is in how we treat stock animals. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

^ With intelligence comes responsibility. Cats are relatively intelligent, so should they not also be held relatively responsible for the carnage?
But then this starts to get back to questions of evil... |
