Winmar is a ex saint vomit player, anyway, and I would not stand for a saints statue at vic park, not after what those $£$%^%%$ flogs did to johnny greening, that infamous Odea and Jeans, hatched a plot to take him out, I don't ever, ever, ever, ever forget that. Stuff the friggin statue idea, sod off, saint vomit, no way known. !! _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

When this story is spoken of, we are all tarred with the same brush.
I've heard media reports that suggest the entire crowd was booing him and directing their comments towards he and to Gilbert McAdam too.
But it seems that many others, including plenty of people who claim to have been at the game, suggest that this is not the truth.
So, was there one or two (or a small group) of supporters who said something racial towards these players? Or was the majority of the crowd getting stuck into him?
I guess it does not really matter as if he was standing up to racial attacks, then it doesn't really make a difference if it were 3 people or 3000 people. The point is he stood up against it.
But if that photo was not taken, would there be any memory of this match?
And was he showing the colour of his skin? Or was he responding to being called gutless?
There's conflicting (over exaggerating?) stories out there. |
I was at the game. I remember being utterly surprised at the hullabaloo because I didn't hear anything. |

I don't want a bronze of anyone but a Collingwood player at Vic Park. Better to have a bronze of Fatui Ataata then a St Kilda/Welfare leper. If folks have nothing better to do and are tired of stabbing their own eyes out, then they can put up a statue of Winmar at Morrabin or the Western Oval. |

Doesn't mean he wasn't abused, but this has now passed into folklore and it has been utterly overblown. |

I was also at the game, and while I dont remember hearing any racist comments, the booing of Winmar & McAdam was quite noticeable whenever they had the ball.
I remember wishing people would shut up because the louder they got booed, the better they played. They both torched us that day. _________________ I hold a cup of wisdom, but there is nothing within. |

He did enjoy some magical moments, though - like getting to watch Michael McGuane have 35 kicks and 11 handballs against his hopeless rabble one day and Daics have 37 disposals - mostly to Brian Taylor who kicked 9.6 - against them another day. |
Rnd 4 1989 was the Daicos to BT show:

I thought the 1989 game was also the day McGuane had 46 possessions; but the stats here don't reflect that?
And McKeown's superb game on a rampaging Lockett, keeping him to "only 5 goals"!

And that was of course after the Easter game on the monday [12/04], against Essendon [not Anzac Day]; whereas st.Vomit played the previous saturday [10/04], thus enjoying two extra days of preparation. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Yes, of course - that was before we started playing Essendon on Anzac Day. We played them on Easter Monday and I just conflated the two things. |

They've raised $9047 and have 24 days left to raise the extra $140,000+
Has St Kilda or Collingwood or the AFL made a donation? Has the Yarra City Council made a donation?
Perhaps a nice plaque is more suitable at VP, with a statue elsewhere? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

A plague more like it.When St Kilda put up one for Greening I will agree. A statue at Vic Park for the inner suburbs hipster dogs to piss on. Perhaps StKilda can put it next to one of Spider Everiit calling a player a petrol sniffer. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Yeh, the mongrel thug who is a life member for saint vomit, for services rendered, in nearly crippling one of the best players to ever, ever, ever, ever, pull on a Collingwood jumper. This is a joke thread, the day we honour a saint vomit player, at our soul home, after what thugs like odea and jeans, did to Greening, is a very sick joke, no way fckuing known, no way. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.
