The myth that everyone who enjoys a joint is some sort of spaced out hippy is quite dumbfounding.
The report found alcohol caused 5,554 deaths and 157,132 hospitalisations in 2010
Australia’s daily alcohol toll: 15 deaths and 430 hospitalisationsI

Smoking-related diseases killed 14,900 Australians in the financial year 2004–05. This equals 40 preventable deaths every day. The major tobacco-related diseases include cancer, heart disease and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Smoking resulted in over 750,000 days spent in hospital and cost $670 million in hospital costs in the financial year 2004–05

Mugwump wrote: | ^ skids, I agree with you about alcohol, and if it were not legal and deeply embedded in our culture I would not be in favor of legalizing it, knowing what we know about its damage - which you have rightly described. The impossibility of prohibition once a drug has taken hold shows you that we should be very careful about legitimizing things.
Dope may be a less anti-social drug than alcohol, though till it is widely used we probably will not know. We do know that it has some very damaging effects on some people, and that these multiply greatly with frequency of use.
My view is that all mind altering drugs carry risks to users and to others, and the more they are available, the more they will be used, and the stronger the strains that will be bred . The more they are used, the more stupefied and docile and apathetic and damaged many people will become. I do not see why anyone would want to license another mind altering drug, knowing what we know about the things that are already legal.
I get that it may work for you, but how it affects blokes like Skids with a good job and a reasonable grip on life is not a basis for policy. |
That makes no sense at all. Cigarettes are available everywhere, yet, the percentage of smokers is declining.
I don't believe more people would use cannabis than what already do so. It would simply take the money from the criminals and put profits to better use for everyone.
Cannabis is already readily available, has been for as long as i can remember.
Dutch among lowest cannabis users in Europe-report
Nov 5 (Reuters) - The Dutch are among the lowest users of marijuana or cannabis in Europe despite the Netherlands' well-known tolerance of the drug, according to a regional study published on Thursday. Among adults in the Netherlands, 5.4 percent used cannabis, compared with the European average of 6.8 percent, according to an annual report by the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, using latest available figures _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

if i could buy joints at the local supermarket, I'd probably buy some every month or so whereas now i don't buy at all. I cbf farting around with people I don't particularly want to know to buy something i don't need.
I'd maybe smoke on the occasional Friday or Saturday if I could buy it easy, never on a school night, it messes with my concentration next day. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

And you should be able to!
A nice tasty spliff after a long week at work, kick back, watch a movie, eat; a pizza, packet of tim tams, some BBQ chips, a box of drumsticks, maybe a toasted sanga, a bag of maltessers and sleep like a baby. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Yeah, it does get a bit like that sometimes.
There's many different strains. I'm no full bottle on them by any means.
There's your sativa and indica... not sure which is which, one makes you mellow and sleepy the other is more of an upper, laughing, party type and, they each have many variances. So if it was easily identifiable I'm sure there'd be the right one for you Stui
The day wil come when it's legal and regulated, as it should be!
It's not a gateway drug.
All users aren't spaced out hippies.
It has so many other uses; tbe seeds are one of the most nutricious you could feed stock, the stems contain the strongest natural fibre known to man, you can use it to make; paper, clothes, soaps and the medicinal uses of this amazing plant are still relatively untapped.
CANNABIS IS THE MOST VERSATILE, EFFICACIOUS PLANT
ON EARTH

I'll only take issue with the "not a gateway drug" comment as i know young people who ended up with Ice addictions after starting on dope.
Funny thing, that coincided with 2 other things.
1. the rise in popularity of energy drinks
2. The "Alcopop" tax
Make of that what you will _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
