Post subject: Eddie to remain club president until 2020. | |
|
Eddie McGuire to be re-elected to the board and stay on as President till at least 2020.
I probably think it's time for a change but until someone steps forward to challenge Ed publicly he's still the best candidate for the job.
http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/eddie-mcguire-will-be-reelected-unopposed-as-collingwood-president-allowing-him-to-stay-on-until-2020/news-story/34af74b750310827ec6a31941ebe9e66
Quote: | COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire will be re-elected unopposed after a turbulent past 12 months at the helm of the Magpies.
McGuire will be re-elected for another three-year term as nominations for the club board closed on Tuesday afternoon. With no challengers materialising, fellow director Mark Korda is also set to be re-elected to the seven-member board unopposed.
Under the rules, the Collingwood president is chosen by the board. McGuire is being re-elected as a director, so unless he is challenged internally by the board — or decides to step down — he would remain as president until early 2020. This would stretch his tenure to over two decades in charge of the club.
The lack of any challenge to McGuire means he will be formally re-elected at the Annual General Meeting on February 27. |

Nope! No accountability, doesn't have to worry about results, memberships, attendances. He can just concentrate on what he does best. Squiring whichever celebrity is in town, and making sure his mate stays as coach until he wins one or dies.
Might be a long 32 years. _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

Like I would stand a Chance and Then I would have to find Board Members.
Maybe we can get some together on here and we can run for the Board _________________ I am Da Man |

Don't want to discourage you, but it's much more complicated than you imagine. If you got in you would be managing the highest profile sports club in Australia with an annual turnover of 80 million dollars a year.
Feel welcome to nominate but you would doing a more useful job of your talents standing for Federal Parliament in which your main opposition comes from a mainly illiterate group of idiots who struggle with concepts like climate change. |

Look I think Eddie has done a great job for the club, but i'm sorry to hear that no-one was game enough to challenge him.I think a genuine challenge would have been good for accountability and transparency at the club. And even if the challenge had failed it would have kept Eddie on his toes and made him lift his game.Competition is a healthy thing, even at a club like Collingwood. |

Great news.
Best person for the job.
We don't realise how lucky we are, how many other candidates out there have the profile, time and cojones to lead one of the biggest sporting clubs in the country for no income.
I'd be interested to hear if there have been any candidates run against Ed during his time.

There is some talk around that Peter Murphy (head of the Collingwood foundation among other things) was approached to challenge Ed but refused as he has too much on his plate at the moment.
Watch this space though, Ed is a bg fan of Murphy and is interested in handing over power at some point, most likely to him. Maybe as soon as in 12 months which would be a perfect time for Ed to take a backward step with Buckley and Pert likely going too. |

Ed has done a marvelous job of turning around the fortunes of the club both on and off the field culminating in the 2010 premiership.
Personally though I can't help but feel that if we fail to make finals this season which will surely see Buckley sacked then it's time for a fresh beginning all round and the architect of the succession plan should stand down also.
Even if we do make finals and Buckley remains as coach I can't help but feel Ed isn't the President he once was, he has so many fingers in so many pies now and I don't think Collingwood can conceivably get the amount of attention he once gave to it.
Hawthorn have shown that people need not fear a change in President and it might actually be a positive.
I wonder if someone like Alex Waislitz could take over? _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

For those who say Ed isn't accountable, anyone can nominate to run against him.
My view is he's done a great job for the club on every metric except one. Premierships. I don't believe that's for lack of trying, but something hasn't worked.
20 years is a long time in a leadership role like this. part of me doesn't want Ed to go, another part thinks new blood would be good. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Don't agree with all he does but as far as I am concerned Edward has the runs on the board (no pun intended) and is the best person for the job whether he has been there 1 year or 20. I don't care how long he is President as long as he is doing the best job and I believe he is. _________________ kymbo |
