We should be asking for a pick between 15 and 22 for Witts.
Big ruckman who is about to hit his prime years.
These types of players are rare in the AFL so we shouldn’t just trade him as if he is some dime-a-dozen midfielder. _________________ - Side By Side - |

I heard Aaron Hall might be on the trade table. Could add a bit of toe to the midfield. |

Could be a interesting time, with Lobb re-signing at GWS not a huge number of ruckmen onthe market...Gold Coast supposed offer is in the early 20's (not an unfair offer) but i just wonder if West Coast or Freo may come in late with a bigger offer given Lobb is now off the table and they both still need a Ruck. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

if the demand is thier people will pay..the demand for a ruckmen is ..will we see the bidding go up is the question _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |

Having said that, Lobbe from Port Adelaide has put himself on the market. Could hurt the other way. |

Just so long as we don't get screwed over, like the Cloke deal looks like heading, I will be pleased, we must play real hardball on Witts trade. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

I have a feeling that the doggies will offer 5th round and we will accept 4th. Reasons are twofold - (1) it relieves salary cap pressure and (2) I feel there will be a series of trades lined up and the Cloke trade will just be part of a "bulk lot". Wells et al do not cost picks just money (Cloke$$$$$), WHE, Brown and Daicos need picks, and Cloke added to what we have should do that. That leaves Witts. Again two possibilities IMO - a low 2nd rounder from Suns that we use in the draft or, Witts and our 2nd rounder for a 1st rounder. The Suns have 2 already and will get mor for their trade outs. Someing in the high teens would be excellent. _________________ No one needs to get hurt, it's only business. |

there is an interesting situation going on here that i think ultimately means we'll get pick 15 or 16 for Witts.
gold coast wants both Witts and a lot of new players.
GWS desperately wants to move up the draft board so that they can still grab an elite player without using all their picks on their academy players. They dont think their academy players are top 4, but they are likely top 15 and one might even go higher then their 7 pick. what that means is that they want one of the top 4 picks in the draft.
Wouldn't surprise me to see GWS and GC do a deal. 4 (and maybe a couple of fourth round picks for points) in exchange for 7 and 15 or 16 for example. We could provide Witts and a couple of fourth rounders to GC in exchange for 15 or 16. Everyone happy and we have moved back into the first round.
GC gets Witts and pick 7.
GWS loses one of its three first rounders, but at least they get to use it on a player and they still get their academy players.
We get our first rounder (remember we got Grundy around this spot in the draft)
Might explain why we are prepared to trade Cloke for a third or fourth rounder. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |

Then again, maybe we are getting Cloke's market value, which is doughnuts. |

I think it's pretty clear that we need the cap space and can not keep Cloke. WHE looks almost a certainty now (his manager has said he wants to be here) and the word is he's on a decent sized contract, the advantage being that GWS may release him for under market value at the trade table. Wells also looks very likely to be signed as well as Mayne and potentially other(s) we don't yet know about.
Witts will have decent value, I'd expect mid 20s. He's not that young anymore at 24 and we hurt his value by barely playing him in 2016. If demand his high and supply low, that could push his value up. _________________ Well done boys! |

If Cameron Wood can cost #8... surely Witts is worth more _________________ Get back on top. |

^^Wood was pick 14. He was only 20 at the time and was drafted around there by Brisbane.
Another comparison is Warnock to Carlton. Mostly went for a mid 20s pick at 21. There are other example like Hickey, that suggest we could get a little more for Witts, but most of these players were younger than 24 and would have been seen to have more upside. _________________ Well done boys! |

Cam Wood was for pick 14 in 2007 draft (Melbourne ended up getting Jack Grimes with it - they must have received the pick from Brisbane ?) |
