The fact is that if they cannot play the machines at one venue then they will find another. For those of us that are addicted gamblers the only solution is take measure and get help. It is certainly not an easy road and in many cases the gambling is a result of other things going on in peoples lives.
I hate poker machines and simply do not play them. Many years ago I visited a school mate in Sydney and went with him to the local club for a few beers. He spent the evening pushing a massive amount of money through the machines. This is certainly not what I call having a good time.
Irrespective of weather Collingwood or some other person / organisation owns the machines the result will be the same. At least if it goes to Collingwood it can help fund some of their charitable and community activities.
Personally I would rather see poker machines removed from our society. Even then the most extreme addicts will just find another way to lose their money. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

The glasshouse is a money pit, it's sucking us dry already.
Pert has admitted that the Glasshouse is losing money, thus trying to make this deal with the City council to get some cash into the joint.
That's the real story here, that that glasshouse, something that wasn't needed, is having a financial strain on the club already. |
God knows whats going on down there ?
All I know is there is a massive facility down there under Collingwood's control yet members have next to zero access to it. |

Lets be honest, the Glasshouse has little to offer and the Pies supporters have reacted accordingly. It feels like a commercial space. End of story. If they want this area to substitute for our social clubs it needs to be social. It feels as homely and inviting as a Hume Highway hotel room. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

I suspect that the days of playing VFL at Vic Park may well be over soon.
The Club will make more money at the Glasshouse with the VFL playing there.
This would be heart breaking. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

The club really isn't happy with the local council too and the way they are letting the Vic Park playing field in particular fall apart.
Last week it really was a poor surface for professional footballers to play on.
I reckon we might phase it out over time, with maybe down to 1-2 games only at Vic Park in a few years. |

I was raised in NSW on the border and the local golf club was basically funded by Victorians coming up by the bus load to play pokies when they were illegal in Victoria.
I also remember one particular woman who's husband had the Finley RSL club ban her as she would go there on pension day and put the lot through. It worked until he became unwell and went to hospital and then she was back.
Las Vegas wouldn't exist without casinos.
I'm not a major fan of pokies or gambling in general, but I have a bit every now and then.
Removing the pokies won't cure the ills of the people who are addicted to them, it'll just manifest itself in other ways unless the root cause gets addressed. The Pokies are just an outlet. So it would seem...surely they need to look at the management down there, seems like no one has a kind word for it _________________ "The last thing he expected WAS THE FIRST THING HE GOT!!!!!"

Am I the only one thinking of the part played by the Collingwood Tote in the development of the Club? |

Can someone explain why pokies are so evil but sports betting is not? I don't know of any pokie venues that give you credit to play the pokies but bookies give credit for people to lose what they don't have... |
