Australia defeat Namibia
From the IRB RWC site.
Australia have defeated Namibia 142-0, the world champions securing their bonus point in just the 12th minute of the Pool A match at Adelaide Oval.
The Wallabies raced in for 22 tries - a new World record in Tests - with full back Chris Latham scoring an Australian record five tries.
Wing Mat Rogers kicked himself into the Australian record books with 16 conversions and two tries for a record 42 points in a Test match.
It was also the biggest winning margin in a Rugby World Cup.
If Wallaby coach Eddie Jones was looking at this match to solve a few selection headaches ahead of the big matches to come, he may need to think again.
Strong perfromances from Latham, Lote Tuqiri, Matt Giteau, both scoring hat-tricks, and debutant John Roe handing him a further selection quandary.
Australia made their intentions clear from the outset playing confident ball in hand rugby.
The Wallabies looked sharp in attack running in 22 tries, 11 in each half, with Latham crossing for a hat-trick of five pointers in the first 25 minutes.
Tuqiri looked dangerous whenever he touched the ball, scoring two first half tries and setting up Latham’s first. Australia went to the break leading 69-0.
Australia started the second half in similar fashion with fly half Matt Giteau, the youngest member of the Wallabies squad, scoring and Tuqiri’s third extending Australia’s lead to 83-0.
Giteau brought up Australia’s highest ever Test score when he crossed for his second try in the 50th minute.
Four minutes later the No.10 brought up the century for Australia, slicing through the Namibian defence to score beside the posts.
Australia 142
Tries: Latham (5), Tuqiri (3), Giteau (3) Rogers (2), Tirinui (2) Lyons, Mortlock, Paul, Grey, Burke, Roe, penalty try.
Conversions: Rogers (16)

Perhaps Australia should have declared at half-time to make it a contest. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |
