Now that we didn't get any player we wanted, what happens now? Are we allowed to go to Footscray and say your getting first crack at Stevens, we'll give you a player and draft pick for him? Or we have we lost our chance completely at any more trades? Just curious as I reckon we might stand a better chance of dealing with Footscray than Port. Even though the doggies will probably say thanks, but no thanks which is understandable given they lost a midfielder Brown and now they can get one back with Stevens.

It's all over! Plus we handed Carlton Scotland on a plate. Not a good day if you follow Collingwood.

I would have kept Scotland. He was contracted and that means he didn't have to go for a 3rd round nothing pick.

Doggies want Rawlings not Stevens. Comes down to whether or not the Blues can fit him under the cap. We draft at 17 don't we. Port will draft before us. Would be quite funny if they have to re-draft him using their first pick to stop him coming to us. Oh please let it come to that. That WOULD be a circus.

Okay, nobody rule out Collingwood mounting a legal challenge against the draft very shortly. The rumour i heard this week, which i cannot substantiate it's validity or origin, is that Eddie MC put a deposit on a house in Melbourne for Stevens. If that proves true, there will be trouble ahead for the AFL. I'll say it 'til i'm purple - the draft is restraint of trade.

I can't see a legal challenge being mounted. Stevens goes into the pre-season draft, not the National Draft. We have pick 15 so I guess we still have some sort of a chance (although I am not putting the house on it going past pick 2 - Carlton). Still if Stevens signs a one year contract with the Blues and demands to be traded to us next year we can still get him. You never know maybe we will pick up a future superstar with that brilliant pick 35 we got for Scotland. Wink

Essendon are the smokeys for Stevens. They have pick 6 and if Carlton doesn't pick him up Essendon will. He isn't coming to us.

The draft is restraint of trade, under the Trade Practices Act, as far as I know.

I don't think that Essendon will be able to afford his $500,000 tag. If they can't hold on to what they got they won't be able to go get that.

and Blanch there are two drafts to come

National One (with kids, Nov 22), essendon have pick 6 in that

Pre-season (with delisted & resigned players like Rawlings, Stevens, Richmonds Ray Hall, Rupe?, Dec 16)

as far as i know essendon won't have pick 6 in that one. they will have pick 13 because they finished 6th overall. We will have pick 15. Also as far as i know there are no priority picks in the pre-season draft it just goes in ladder finishing position. Hence bulldogs will get Rawlings at 1, Carlton get stevens at 2 or he is available to every club that finished before us on the ladder.

I stand corrected for the 2nd time today...not having the best day. A smart person would quit posting for the day...I'll have to see if my last remaining brain cell is going to function today or to pack it in.

Thanks for the clear up Cam.
