Post subject: An ongoing problem with Ben Reid | |
|
First off it would be great to see Ben out there playing full games
So when I turned up at an ice cold Vic Park to gleen some info on
our back up players but he and Levi were withdrawn --two i wanted to see
and how they were progerssing
Mates said to me Reid non starter due another soft tissue injury and Levi
alledgedly held for Port Power game.
Wonder if Reidy will ever get his body right --hope so
Great game with Grundy (after early scare) gr8 game and Marsh gets a lot of ball down back but his disposal needs a little tweeking _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

The Reid case is unlike anything i can remember. He last played, what, in about round 4 last year barring a cameo in the .g.w.s game last year in which he pulled up after a quarter or so ? After that it's been soft tossue injury after soft tissue injury.
You really have to wonder whether he's contracted some strange virus or something that's affecting his muscle fibres. It's weird. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Just to correct you - the cameo game was against the Bear at the G when the world caved in for us. _________________ There is Collingwood and then the rest. |

Be interested to know if this is another strain or the impact of a knock. I'm hopeful that he getting better each time and that we'll eventually see him return to senior footy. |

There was a famous Australian golfer called Steve Elkington who won the Australian Open in 1992 and the US PGA in 1995. Ironically enough he was "allergic to grass"!
Think Ben is allergic to football. Sad _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Reminds me a bit of Sean Rusling, but because Reid has the runs on the board we're persisting a lot longer.
It might just be his body isn't up to it anymore. Some really good players have had to retire early because of injuries (Ted Whitten Jr comes to mind), Reid might unfortunately be one of those guys. |

Maybe he just needs a spell, give him the year off with just swimming and hhiking as training and see what happens next year, let's face it he isn't going to have an impact this year now.
As I've mentioned before another guy had issues like Ben, his name was Fraser Gehrig, similar builds as well, he went away and put on a ton of muscle and went from a tall wingman to one of the best KFs in the league, maybe we should explore that path with Ben.
Other out of the square options are Yoga and Ballet, Ballet to improve back-core strength and Yoga to increase flexibility. _________________ Defender...........

Great point about Gehrig. At the Eagles he was a slim, athletic string bean. At the Saints he was a brute!! _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

At this point in time I can't see Reid playing a seniors game this year.
Keep him in the VFL side for the rest of the year and then start from scratch next season.
How much longer can the club persist with him. We have already got younger players going passed him in the pecking order. This could be his final season...
I hope not. _________________ BLACK n WHITE

FFS people, there's another 9 home and away games before we play finals. So if it takes Reid another 4 or 5 weeks to get back in to the seniors, that would still give him a month to regain his touch and match fitness. I guess if he breaks down again its finito for this year, but as it stands, the club would be mad to give up on having him ready to play finals football. |

I remember both Hird and Harvey had seasons destroyed by injury. Felt like they missed almost 2 years. Both came back and played like superstars well into their 30s.
Even if this year is a write off its too early to give up on him _________________ http://youtu.be/hvtdbfI1sqQ |

Problem is last year was a right off also thanks to soft tissue injuries.
If he doesn't get back and play an AFL game this year that will mean only 4 senior games played across the last 2 seasons.
While we all hope he can eventually make a full recovery can anyone recall a player in his same circumstance doing so?
Brown has had two seasons destroyed by injury but they weren't consecutive and they were structural injuries.
The club will stick by him for next season but if this injury curse continues into a 3rd year I can't see how we can continue with the status quo for a player only in his second season of a lucrative 4 year deal. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |
