These 2 players went after we picked up sharenberg & freeman.. In a rare year we get 2 top 10 picks we need to capitalise. Like we did in 2005 with Thomas & pendelbury. 4 years later they were pivotal to our premiership.
So in 2013 we reached that point again. Mcarthy is that 2nd tall forward we are crying out for. (White is a 3rd tall option IMO). Criibbs is a tall hard it midfielder with great skills.
Sharenberg & freeman have got time on there side because they have been cruelled by injury..
Hope they come good because we could of really stuffed up here _________________ Collingwood a way of life! |

Sharenberg was like Judd, was known to have issues but we thought it was worth the risk (touted as a top 3 pick without the problems). He's got himself healthy now, so unless he does want to go home as rumoured we should be in for something special. |

That would be "Cripps ", I'm guessing.
They are both W A boys and the go home factor is becoming a real issue with clubs taking on kids from interstate. It might be that some Vic clubs were concerned about keeping them. McCarthy is already linked to going home with the dockers looking to replace Pav very shortly. The blues are going to have to pay way over the odds if they want Cripps signature next time.
The Pies go with the S A pick at 6 and there seems to be concern about Scharenbergs signature already but as Wokko suggested, he was to good to allow to fall any lower.
In the same draft, the Eagles picked Dom sheed ( W A ) at 11 and overlooked Cripps who went at 13. If Cripps goes on to be as good as he looks, then it's the Eagles who have probably screwed up at the draft. Either that or just bring him back home in a year or two anyway. |

cripps will turn out to be a beauty but supporters have got to stop looking to see if the grass is greener elsewhere. it doesn't seem to matter who we pick up because some supporters are always sooking over what we don't have.
nothing is ever guaranteed so even if we had have picked up cripps or others who is to know what fate would have delivered us. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

This doesn't require a weekly thread. Until Freeman and Scharenberg play there's nothing on which to update our views.
As before, I'm happy with our picks. I'd take both Scharenberg and Freeman ahead of Cripps. McCarthy has looked pretty good so far but has not really been tested and has not yet shown much contested marking ability. At the time of the draft we actually needed mids more than talls.
You can't predict injuries. McCarthy and Cripps had just as much chance of being injured as Scharenberg or Freeman (though Matt did have pre-existing issues). They still may be. _________________ Well done boys! |

I still want to know more about this Cribbs fellow. Clearly we should have called his name at pick 6! |

Oh yeah Cripps...
Fact is we can't really judge these picks yet because of there injury set backs.. But the point is valid when we went down the mini rebiuld path & got 2 top 10 picks we really need to nail them like we did in 2005 & 2006 with Thomas pendels brown & reid.. We got all them right and then went on to win a flag..
If we are to take the next step in 2016-2019 then these 2 picks need to work out.
If they don't it will cost us dearly & possibly a flag chance _________________ Collingwood a way of life! |

I think it's extremely risky using a first round pick on a WA kid that could want to go home in 2-3 years. In terms of McCarthy, it's not like we were looking to use the pick on a key forward. _________________ ------------

We'll know for sure at the end of next year, if our boys get injured and miss another year of development it will be a long, long way back, one would have to think they'd never reach their true potential if that happens, if either suffer another season ending injury this year I reckon we've done our doe personally. _________________ Defender...........

It's not like any recruiter has a crystal ball, we picked the best available young men to fill our current and projected list needs at the time.
No team has had worse injury woes over the last 3 years and the vast majority have been much better off.
Criticizing selection policy on the basis of subsequent injuries is being a smart arse. |

Had we got Cripps and McCarthy I expect a huge number of threads on why this could be a mistake and how they may want to leave and who we should have drafted instead of them. _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

at the moment, they haven't cost us anything. if, heaven forbid, we don't get much value from them we are no worse off. on the other hand ... _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |
