Anyone who seriously thinks the ump maggots cannot influence games, hugely, are living in a state of delusional denial. Fact. _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Carazzo has expressed interest to Campbo about becoming and umpire. Just what we need, yet another biased umpire - from the Scum of all places! |

Very true PNC and the actions of a few of them is a blight on our great game. At the same time I can see a shift in attitude from the dark years of Jeff Gieschen. I personally think that Campbell is less defensive and is more open and honest in his approach. |

Coached Under 10's on Sunday - we had an older chap that might've been in his 50's, and 2 young kids that might've been 12-13 under him learning the ropes.
(The following is not a knock on those individuals, it's about the system.)
The above to me is completely the wrong way to go about bringing umpires through.
It should be like drinking - no getting drunk on having authority until you're 18!!
Kids of 12-13 should be playing the game, not umpiring it. It's far too young to be breeding authority figures.
I also think one needs to have played the game for X number of years before adjudicating, as there are too many nuances that you can't pick up from a text book or by watching. You need to have experienced being in certain situations to be able to decide whether there was an infringement or not.
It's not Tennis where it's either in or out.
I think the standard of umpiring can be improved.
Make it a genuine career path instead of something on the side for these lawyers and the like that are doing it now.
Increase the pay, make it a full time job.
If full time, the best decision makers can't be left behind because of a lack of fitness or bouncing ability, they'd have all week every week to work on these issues.
Recruit 19-20 year olds out of the TAC Cup that missed out on getting drafted. Also go after the local club gun that's 28 and won the last 6 B&F's; genuine football people who love the game.
Not just little weasels who love having the right to tell big strong men what to do. _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.

The good news is that we dont have Stevic or Schmidt to annoy us this week. We have the umpire with a Saints background and two others I hadnt heard of. _________________ Barwick to Banks, back to Barwick- he shoots

RED ALERT:
Umpire Justin "Adolf" Schmidt's FAVOURITE team in the whole competition is North Melbourne.
Umpire Justin "Adolf" Schmidt's LEAST FAVOURITE team in the whole competition is Collingwood.
Is umpire Justin "Adolf" Schmidt officiating in today's game?
YOU BET HE IS.
Here we go all over again...copping this bloke in another crucial "8 point game".

Am at the game. Siren clearly sounds for quarter time. Half a second later, ball leaves North player's boot and goes through.
Umpire responsible for making call? Schmidt.
Goal? Of course. _________________ "Give Bucks a bit of a go mate, because when Bucks was the captain he carried that team for you, he played his guts out for you |

Sorry got to disagree, we are not in a situation to say to kids they cannot umpire, who is going to umpire those junior games on a Sunday? You going to find over 100 adults to umpire in every junior footy league every Sunday? Good luck!
As for they should be playing, majority do, we have a large number of umpires who umpire an early game then play in a later game every Sunday. Then there are the kids who don't want the physical aspect of footy but still enjoy it and they umpire as well.
Best umpires in senior footy are the blokes in their early 20's who want to go higher, they umpire the game right, learn the rules and show respect to both teams. At local level the worst are those who have been umpiring for 10-15 years in the lower grades and think their shit don't stink. |
