It's an unpaid position.
He doesn't actually play for the team or anything.
He brings in millions of dollars via smart sponsorship deals.
He orchestrated our MCG deal and the move to Olympic Park.
He's not finished yet although it seems you are pretty close. |

Do we give his work at Beyond Blue credit?
But one of the reasons an organisation like Beyond Blue exists is because of Conservative policies trampling the most needy and working class Australian's into the ground. |
How much Government Funding does BB get and is Jeffs current or previous position unpaid?
He ain't stupid old Jeffery if no one else would employ him what better than to set up a foundation with Government funds to employ him and make him look like a good fella while he is at it. |

You won't hear a peep out of any Melbourne clubs as to Ed's position, otherwise they might actually have to do some of the dirty work themselves in regards to such things as equalization etc. Until that is out of the way, then watch them all finally start to speak out against him. |
Ah yes, brilliant stuff Az, but to change tack mid-thread, I'm looking forward to this week's Game On Thread where I can again see 'Defender', 'what'sinaname', and company wow us with their penetrating insights.

Gee we did great after that, didn't we??
If you are going to get rid of a coach or a president, you have to replace them with somebody. Who is out there?
Unless there is a New Magpies type coup in the offing, leave the guy alone.
Both Macallister and McGuire stepped in when Collingwood were at their lowest ebb and they got them going again.
Coaches of necessity, and Prime Ministers, live on crisis management. They have to. Otherwise Buckenara would still be coaching the Swans and Kevin or John would still be PM. It is different for a sporting club administration. they thrive on stability. |
And HERE is the problem. Most of the logical and rational posters are educated or experienced enough to KNOW our history and validate their comments based on actual facts.
The trolls seeking the sacking of a President have no idea of our history or that changing the doctor halfway through an opration may not be the best medical option.... |

Dave The Man wrote: | Quote: | FORMER Hawthorn president Jeff Kennett says the time has come for Eddie McGuire to stand down as Collingwood president.
McGuire, who was elected president of the Magpies when they were dwindling at the bottom of the AFL ladder and in financial trouble, has helped his beloved club return to powerhouse status over the past 16 years, which included a premiership in 2010.
However the Pies have suffered a form slump during the second half of this season and are likely to miss the finals for the first time in nine years.
Kennett said Collingwood needed a fresh face in the president’s chair. |
I tend to agree a Bit with Kennett.
The club at the Moment is a tad Stale in my mind.
And some new people in might not be the Worse Idea in the World.
Though it is Jeff Kennett;)

I have always had time for Jeff, he too took charge of a club that at the time was under performing on and off the ground he has Turned it into a club that is a power house... And had remained so. Jeff demands as much respect as anyone. |

"I think it's time"....yes and why? Where are the supporting arguments? You were starring into your eggs benedict this morning when you suddenly had an epiphany Jeffrey? "Ed should stand down!"..."because I saw it in my runny yolks!"
But surely this is a yolk old Joffa of the poos'n'wees. Surely you can't be serious?
Anyone that knows anything about what is happening at Collingwood knows now would be the worst time for a change of leadership in the boardroom.
Just because we lose a few games of football is not grounds to turn the place upside down. A little perspective goes a long way ladies. |
So we need this Board to stay until they decide to Leave then?
Well there been there for 15 years so might not be a bad thing |
There is no time limit Dave. But you don't turn a club upside down because we have lost a few games and very small vocal handful of interweb trolls have got their undies in a bunch. Yeh, we might miss the finals for the first time in nine seasons, big deal. It's like throwing the baby out with the bath water.
You want a new board? Give me some concrete evidence of abuse of power, financial mismanagement, putting our club in a compromising position for personal profit, conflict of interest, or just something decent, not because some people sook when we lose.
The Club embarked on the biggest building program since 1959 and we are in the final stages of this now. The board needs at least two more years to see this through. Perhaps at that time it may be decided that new fresh ideas are needed and change may take place. I don't see an overthrow happening any time soon and, from my very limited perspective, I don't see anyone that could do what Eddie does. |

Kennett = jealous the Hawthorn people were rapt to see him leave.
Eddie is one of us, just one of us in a position to make a difference. We are lucky to have him.
I'd rather he make a mistake out of blind passion to the cause, rather than a flashy corporate suit with little genuine emotional ties to the club make decisions off a spreadsheet.
(He has a CEO and a board to ensure stupidly irrational things don't happen in a business sense, he's a clever enough operator not to be doing incredibly stupid things anyway.) _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.
