It's time, with Lynch going down it's time to promote Kyle Martin to the senior list, and bring him in against Carlton.
27 possessions and 6 goals is the icing of the cake of a great VFL season (and pre season) so far.
He deserves a shot. |

I'd like to see him in as well but you can't drop any of our forwards at the moment they have earned their spot. Blairy would be the candidate but you would send the wrong message if you did that. Definitely promote him! He will get his chance. With Faz going down we need a play maker - halfback flanker with a good kick at the moment. Dwyre could do the job, but i'd like someone taller. Sinkers with his speed would do but he is injured. Seeds has only just come back (too early). Bring Marley in! |

Can he play defense? If not, there's no real point in promoting him, unless you think we'll drop Blair or Goldsack to fit him in.
More likely to be Dwyer in for Fasolo, with Broomhead, Seedsman or Williams more outside chances.
We could always reshuffle things (Goldsack to defense, Martin up forward), but when our structure's working so well, you want to upset it as little as possible when there's a forced change. The ideal is a like for like swap. _________________ Well done boys! |

We are just promoting off rookie list. Doesn't mean promotion to main team but might. |

Just because we promote him doesn't mean he has to come in this week.
He was our VFL best and fairest, a player most unfortunate not to receive more AFL appearances last year.
At the very least he'll earn himself some more coin I'd think because of a base salary increase(?) which would be a just reward for his performances for the club to date. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Yeah doesn't necessarily means he plays against Carlton, but if Lynch is put on the LTI you may as well promote someone ASAP.
Martin is by far the best rookie we have left on the rookie list. |

You'd usually not want to promote someone just for the hell of it. What if we got injuries in another area and needed to promote someone else? But do we even have another Rookie who'd be in line for promotion? Frost obviously, but he can take the mid-season option. So sure, let's do it. Just don't play him . Kidding of course, if he gets a game it will be well deserved and I hope he does well. _________________ Well done boys! |

The general habit, if I remember it correctly, is to leave slots in the senior list vacant when there is an LTI until immediately before the rookie is selected to play. Presumably, they like to keep their options open as long as possible.
We are a small/medium defender short. We don't have a small/medium defender ready to come in and showing form, so we can't replace like for like.
So, what we have to do is find someone else in the senior side, someone currently playing a different role, who has skills and experience as asmall/medium defender, and replace that player with one of our reserves.
Two names come to mind: the first is Goldsack. He'd go OK but I don't think much of his disposal, and in any case, he plays a vital role up forward and without Reid cannot be replaced there. So scratch Goldy.
The second is Brent Macaffer. Caff can play half-back, he's pretty good at it. He's quick, strong, excellent overhead, and has a great defensive mindset. If we play Caff as a half-back, we obviously need another tagger, who would presumably take Murphy. The only other noted tagger in our side is Marty Clarke. Is he available? Would he be any good? He has done his best work in the tagging role: he smashed Essendon's Stanton last Anzac Day. Or can we find someone else to tag Murphy? Who have we got? _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Actually, no. Can't have him as an encouragement promotion. We now only have two rucks on our senior list. If they both went down, we'd need to promote Hudson. We also have two small defenders on our Rookie list that could be in line for promotion, given our injuries, in Yagmoor and Mooney. So, sure, if he's going to play, promote him. Otherwise he'll have to wait. _________________ Well done boys! |

Hudson was promoted with the last spot on the list during the pre-season. That area is covered.
And as small defenders, Yagmoor is at no threat of giving the selectors something to think about. Mooney has been 50-50 to date. If we need a small defender, Marley and Sinclair will be both available after the bye, possibly Fasolo as well, and Clarke is there as well if we run out of options... |
