Sorry TP, I can't see it your way from who I have dealt with and what I have experienced in life. In a perfect world maybe, but our world is far from perfect.

I wonder whether the cost of ambulance fees also contributes to this violence....

Some of it will be the being woken up and manhandled factor, but who wouldn't resist unsolicited treatment if it means being billed thousands of dollars because some 'good samaritan' has called for an unwanted ambulance?

I'm thinking that an ambulance membership will not be high on a druggy's list of priorities.

Good thought. I guess the Ambos aren't going to know what reaction they'll get till they start work. (unless the person is 'known' as in WPT's examples)

I saw on the news last night there are designated no-go areas for ambulances and other places where it's cops required on scene before you attend.

Be a bit hard if you happen to live in a shit area, can't afford to leave, surrounded by Fwits and knowing if you get ill or injured you'll need to get a taxi to hospital.

Anyone witnessed an addict OD and see an Ambo hit them up with Narcan? I have numerous times and the Addict is pissed right off. You have taken them out of their high that they most likely committed a crime to get to that stage and now they have to go out and do it again. They can become severely aggressive. No doubt we will have the "but drugs are illegal shit" They been illegal for half a century and we haven't changed a thing, oh yes we have it's cheaper to get on these days.

When we have an action we have a reaction. https://www.theage.com.au/national/victoria/bus-drivers-want-same-protections-from-attacks-as-ambos-police-20180523-p4zh3q.html

Bus drivers want same protections from attacks as ambos, policeI totally agree with the TWU.

We either make the call to let them die or help them. There is no middle ground.

Actually they have been illegal for far longer than half a century, and for a long time that illegality was enforced, and it worked rather well. What has happened in the last half a century is that they have been semi-tolerated by police and relentlessly glamorized in popular music, the biggest propaganda tool of our era. At the same time, we have deregulated alcohol consumption (licensing hours, etc) and the evils of alcohol have grown accordingly. We see the results around us everywhere.

The new law is discriminatory and inappropriate. The role of the laws in relation to criminal violence against the person is to ensure that persons of substance are protected from violent outbursts by people without substance. Transportation worked well.

P4S, what legal recourse is there in general (say, for an advocacy group) to challenge a new government law?

Se we set up a penal colony in England and transport them to London?

That's a bit inhumane.

It’s very cold and there’s only soccer to watch in winter - but they’d learn their lesson quickly watching nil-all draws between West Ham and Chelsea, I reckon.
