If Andrew Symonds bowls during the World Cup i think the better batsman will clobber him. Im not sure that he is a good enough bowler as well as the fact that the South African pitches will not suit him.
Langers innings was ok and he made the most of being dropped on zero? I hope Langer makes the World Cup Squad
Michael Clarke looks like a natural and i hope the selectors give him an opportunity very soon. Maybe he needs to work on hitting the singles etc. His fielding was very good from what i saw for someone so young.
If Lehmann doesnt perform in next two tests he will be watching the West Indies tour on Tv and Clarke will take his place.

Cameron White is mainly a bowler that can bat a bit down the order.
He was selected as a spin bowler.

Who do you think will replace Shane Warne if he can't make it?

McGill is a good test match bowler but in the World Cup he will get slogged.

If Warne cant play in World Cup Australia now has to find 20 overs from somewhere. Warnes 10 and the 10 from the fifth bowler eg Watson etc.
I dont think Australia has any other spinner who would be reliable enough to bowl 10 overs in the World Cup without getting a pasting from India or Pakistans batsmen.
If McGrath or Gilesppie fail to make inroads on a teams batting line up they wont have the flexibility of using Warne to get that vital early break through

My immediate thought was that they'll now bring in MacGill (much to my disgust - can't stand him!)
Hey, I was impressed with Brett Lee yesterday - very economical bowling, for him!

Cameron White is too much of a risk. I cant remember the draw but if you played a team like India or Pakistan they will tear White to shreds i think.
I think they will have to pray that Warne gets better. But whatever happens he is unlikely to be at 100% fitness. However a 75% fit Warne is better than anyother spinner going around.
The difference with the Woeld Cup is that the stakes are much high when it gets to the cut throat stages. You cant go oh well i will do better next match as there may not be a next match. Thats why Warne and Waugh are so good as they deliver when the stakes are at their highest.

I agree that it is a risk whoever they take (if Warne can't make it). But you have to have a spinner in the team. Whether the selectors are happy with Lehmann and Bevan as part time options plus possibly Symonds is another matter, but I think you have to take MacGill because he has been reliable in the past.
Another point if Warne misses out is the experience it takes away from the team. An inexperienced team may collapse under presure, which re kick starts the debate about Steve Waugh and the much nedded experience he will add to the team.

If MacGill plays they lose a lot of flexability. Firstly MacGill cant bat very well so the tail becomes slightly longer.
Secondly MaGill isnt good enough to bowl in the first 15 overs or the last 10 overs of an innings. Therefore you are forced to bowl him in the middle stages of the match.
Thirdly how good is MacGill in the field. At least Warne could field in the slips and has a good pair of hands.
MacGill also has a tendancy to crack the sooks and i dont think he would add much to the team harmony.
Id rather go for a spinner who can also bat so that the damage caused is minimal. At least that player can contribute by scoring runs.

Aren't you all forgetting Hauritz ? They're not grooming him for nothing and MacGilla wasn't even in the selectors preferred 30.
MacGill is an outside chance but only if he: 1/ gets selected for the Melbourne Test (we could well go in with 4 quicks) and 2/ bowls really economically and takes a heap of wickets.

Havnt seen Hauritz bowl or bat that much so i cant comment. He would want to have a good temperant though as the World Cup is high pressure and not a place for the mentally weak.
