Very very sad. It was a horrible day. It could well go down as greater in tragedy than Ash wednesday. _________________ Football is Greatness

That dust cloud today had all the hallmarks of Ash Wednesday 1983.
A shocking tragedy we knew was coming as summer after drought ridden summer we dodged a bullet.
Truly terrible news! |

Can we spare a thought for rambopriscilla - long time poster on Nick's. CFA volunteer, left work to fight fires in the Yarra Valley... helping to save lives/homes while his own home in the Yarra Valley has been evacuated.
Onya rambopriscilla, thinking of you |

More photos from The Age and Herald Sun. They do an amazing and heroic job our CFA volunteers.

Latest threats issued from the CFA.
http://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/incidents/incident_updates.htm
Beechworth is the latest in serious danger (as of 12.05am).
But there are dozens of serious fires on this list. It might pay to check if you have relatives and friends living in these areas. |

That'll be the Yarra Glen fires, unless the Dandenongs have gone up. There was a fire in FTG late this afternoon. |

http://www.theage.com.au/national/death-toll-rises-from-bushfires-20090208-80jv.html
Quote: | Twenty-five people are confirmed dead and the toll is expected to rise in Victoria's worst bushfires since Ash Wednesday.
The number of dead is expected to reach more than 40 as blazes continue to ravage the state with more than 1000 hectares affected as 3000 firefighters struggle to contain seven major firefronts. |
Apparently the town of Kinglake is gone. 14 died in a fire at Wandong alone.
