You're right, except that jokes about race are often used to alienate and enforce stereotypes. For example, I don't laugh at "abo" jokes, and I would hope no one else does either.

It's all about intentions, and while I'm 99% sure Joffa isn't racist, it's not always clear.

Collingwood supporters and Muslims are very different groups of people mate, I'm sure you can acknowledge that. Muslims are vilified and harassed in society on a daily basis, deported for no good reason, and treated with suspicion by governments the world over, Collingwood supporters gets teased light heartedly about a sport.
I know one is the smallest integer but I had no idea it was vilified and harassed in society on a basis deported for no good reason and treated with suspicion by governments the world over the other group gets teased light heartedly about a sport.

...and thats precisely why i said the collingwood example was different in my post.

But there is no difference between someone making fun of aussies and making fun of muslims...actually, there is. 'Muslim' isnt a race, its a religion. But there cant be malevolence intended either way. If i was overseas, and another country wanted me to leave because i was Australian...id be pissed off.

But if some pom (theres another one) at the cricket at Lords told me to bugger off back to australia in a good natured manner after Warney had pulled off some bullshit delivery....id take it in the manner it was intended, humour.

Sherriffe. My best mate is a black fella and he tells and laughs at "Abo" jokes.

In fact i was at a party with him and all he mates and we were swapping white and Black jokes.

Oh and by the way I work with a Muslim and he has some of the best how to spot a suicide bomber jokes.

So sorry your puralistic stance in some cases does not apply, however noble they may be.

Phew, I thought Nicks was a gone'r for a while there..

Anyway, bwphantom, as is clear from your post, it all comes down to whether the people being joked about are offended. If not, say whatever.

Fair point sherrife
Firstly lets never ever lose our humane ability to laugh at ourselves it's a great medicine mate Smile

Sherrife
I live in a muslim suberb next to a Muslim school, i am a carer of two sweet loving indigenous boys, I am heavily involved within the koori network in Melbourne.

Im a lover of all people regardless of race colour and religeon, you know sherrife i have shown these pics to Muslim folk who regularly visit the joffa household with great laughter all around with no offence with a smidge of understanding if we all stood back every now and then and had a good laugh at ourselves the world will very quickly become a better place!
