26 years on.
26 Domhnach na Fola were shot by the 1st Battalion of the British Paratroop Regiment.
13 died at the scene, of which 6 were minors. Another died 4 months from his injuries.
Many witnesses including bystanders and journalists testify that all those shot were unarmed. Five of those wounded were shot in the back.
A timely remeinder following our own Invasion Day celebrations.
Murder and oppression in the name of the Queen and in our lifetimes.
Not some distant history, from yesteryear.
I cant believe the news today
Oh, I cant close my eyes and make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...
cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...
Broken bottles under childrens feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I wont heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall
Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday bloody sunday...)
(allright lets go!)
And the battles just begun
Theres many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart
Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? how long...
cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...
Tonight...
Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
Tonight
Sunday, bloody sunday (tonight)
(come get some!)
Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Wipe your tears away
I wipe your tears away
(sunday, bloody sunday)
I wipe your blood shot eyes
(sunday, bloody sunday)
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
(here I come!)
And its true we are immune
When fact is fiction and tv reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die
The real battle yet begun (sunday, bloody sunday)
To claim the victory jesus won (sunday, bloody sunday)
On...
Sunday bloody sunday
Sunday bloody sunday...

I reckon the live version of that song is the best, you know the one with the bit about the Irish-Americans? |

Ooohhh, you are talking about the Rattle and Hum Movie. That version is awesome.
I have had enough of Irish Americans that haven't been back to their countries in 20-30 years and talking about the resistance, the revolution back home. And the Glory of the revolution, and the glory of dying for the revolution.
F@#K the Revolution!
It went something like that I think. |

Here's the complete quote:
Quote: | Well let me tell you something. I've had enough of Irish-Americans who haven't been back to their country in 20 or 30 years come up to me and talk about the resistance, the revolution back home. And the glory of the revolution. And the glory of dying for the revolution. **** the revolution! They don't talk about the glory of killing for the revolution. What's the glory in taking a man from his bed and gunning him down in front of his wife and his children? Where's the glory in that? Where's the glory in bombing a Rememberance Day parade of old-age pensioners, their medals taken out and polished up for the day? Where's the glory in that? To leave them dying, a cripple for life, or dead, under the rubble of a revolution that the majority of the people in my country don't want. No more! |

Ahh, thanks David. Haven't watched the movie for about 10 years so that's all I could remember.
To be honest, I was very disappointed with U2's last concert here. Bono spent half of it preaching about every cause under the sun between virtually every song. If I wanted to pay $200 to listen to preaching, I would have gone to a Hillsong Concert! Fair enough, preach on a couple causes, but for FFS I didn't go there to listen to Billy Graham! |

Thanks Shane - I lost 2 cousins this day - young men with so much to live for
Bag Bono as you will - you have no f*cking idea how much he has worked and given to the Irish people.
Ever met Bono David??? Argogant knob bolloocks - nothing further from the truth - he has worked out how to use the media and does it damn well!

Yep, this is something we should truly remember. RIP to the brave men and women who were killed whilst peacefully protesting against the oppression of Catholics.
Long live the resistance to British colonialism. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

Well, no, I haven't met him, but yes, the persona he puts across in the media is that of an arrogant pr*ck.
Which is not to say that he hasn't done a lot of good. He has, and clearly seems to actually care about what he's doing, unlike the majority of Hollywood celebrities with their 'causes'.
And yet, all that doesn't change the fact that he's still one hell of an arrogant pr*ck. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
