3? I thought from 3-15 k's over the limit was the most minor offence? _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

Nope, under 10 is 1 then over 10 and under ??? is 3 demerit points, cant remember if its 15 or 20
Although it probably used to be under 15 was 1, but we have the revenue raisers in power |

Ah k, thanks for the info, I think the categories used to be 3-15, then 15-30, then 30+.
Anyway, back to the point, ONE incident 14k's above the limit is hardly an outrage given the size of the organisation. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

The law is the law.
And the law has been broken.
Remember the advert with the woman and her living at the correct speed. So if the TAC employee hit her at 14 kmh over then she would be dead according to the TAC.
But that doesn't matter does it when you are trying to defend the TAC. |

If you are trying to demonstrate the road toll per speed zone those stats are meaningless member. They are for pedestrian deaths not road deaths.
Road fatality figures across Victoria for 2005 show:
100/110 kmh zone:165 fatalities
70/80/90 kmh zone 92 fatalities
40/40/60 kmh zone 87 fatalties

If you care to look at my posts, and my banging away about the TAC wipe off 5 adverts, then you will see those stats are relevant to my argument. |

I sometimes wonder about the speeding law.
I am all for road safety and I find the whole debate interesting, look at this scenario..... You have one driver, driving at 110kms in a modern car that is fitted with ESC, ABS, good tyres travelling in broad daylight on a 100km posted highway.
You have another driver, driving on the same road during the morning peak (dark) in winter, in wet & windy conditions, in an older car, with worn tyres, fogged up windows etc. but he is sitting on 100km's.
One is breaking the law and can be penalised, but the other is at a greater risk of being in an accident. Speed is one of many contributors to an accident, it is not the only cause. _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

What's scary about the whole speed thing is I grew up in the era when it was 35 mph limit in town and basically whatever you like on the open road as long as you weren't (in the opinion of Police) driving unsafely.
Seatbelts were an annoyance that would've stopped you being able to climb from the back seat into the back of the station wagon to play with toys while mum was hurtling down the highway at 85mph IF they were fitted let alone worn.
I had my P's at 17 and full unrestricted license at 18 and would regularly go to parties or the pub on Friday or Saturday night at 18 and drive home with a BAC that would have stunned a mule while all the time trying to avoid the cops.
Finley to Tocumwal is 21 Kms in a fairly straight line. If you take the back roads which were mostly dirt; no reflectors down the middle or sides, it was closer to 30. What a way to get driving experience, doing 120kmph sideways down dirt tracks at 2am while about 0.2 BAC. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
