Quote: | A senior departmental official yesterday told The Australian that the child involved was sexually abused at age seven and, as a safety measure, was put with various foster families, eventually ending up in 2005 with a non-indigenous family in Cairns. But she was returned nine months later to Aurukun, where she was gang-raped by the nine males.
"These non-indigenous people were fantastic - ensuring she went to school, and the father actually took a year off his work to personally supervise this girl," he said. "But two new social workers were appointed to the north and they expressed the view, which was repeated many times to the investigating committee, that putting an indigenous child with white foster parents was another stolen generation.
"They convinced the department with this rubbish and the girl was taken from Cairns to Aurukun - back to where she was being abused previously and where she had contracted syphilis as a little child - and she was unsupervised, with the result that she was constantly raped.
"The report sets out how every step of the way the Child Safety Department did everything wrong, and all because they weretold that a safe, white environment was `another stolen generation'."

An organisation living in fear of repercussions concerning this issue contributed to this 10 year old girl being taken from a relatively safe situation in a white persons home to a dangerous environment wherein she was raped.
You can all tout this and that. But when it comes down to it protection of children is more important than the living in fear of repercussions of the 'Stolen generation' stigma.
So who has been betrayed by this? An innocent 10 year Old girl. _________________ All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

It was proved this week that saying "sorry" is not about Reconciliation, but Compensation. _________________ "There's an old saying in Tennessee, I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee, that says, fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me... you can't get fooled again." - Oscar Wilde |

Why, because some activists called for the apology to be backed up by the establishment of a compensation fund? (a call btw that the government has refused). Care to expand and explain how this proves sorry is not about reconciliation but compensation? |

Proved?
Anyway, people don't need someone to say sorry to begin action for any perceived wrong doing.
