Gotta love Joh the guy may have been an evil corrupt maverick, but at least he kept things interesting _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

nah, that's ok, that's just the way it's done.
if a politician retires, resigns or dies whilst holding the seat, there will always be a by-election held to determine the next sitting member. |
Except for the Senate.
The Premier of the senators state gets to choose a replacement. |
Yep, but he/she must be a member of the same party as the senator being replaced following the change to section 15 of the constitution in 1977. |

Is that true?
I dimly remember a Queensland Premier (must have been the crook Joh) replacing an ALP Senator with a National Party guy.
Don't remember the year though. |

the year was 74, and the end result was a double dissolution (as it gave the coalition the balance of power).

Why would you vote for someone who was going to pull the pin halfway through his term. Howard getting the flick is pure Karma. Could not happen to a nice *rick.
Labour has won the seat. This so good.

Ms McKew said she had targeted conservative voters in the campaign for Bennelong but denied she had won the seat on the back of a growing Asian vote.
"My strategy was to go after Liberal voters - not Chinese, Korean, Italian or Armenian. I want to clear that up before we get an urban myth about Chinese and Korean voters."
The victory was also a win for grassroots campaigning over the "buckets of money" Mr Howard and the Liberal Party had pumped into the seat, she said.
"Mr Howard and the Liberal Party spent $20 million in the campaign for Bennelong ... all we promised was a child-care centre." |

Wouldn't have been any different to the lies he said before. It just so happens any Leader of a Party lies, it is just what they do.
The Rudd lies will begin rest assured, the pricks cannot help themselves. _________________ All this may be summed up in one word - CHARACTER - and if that is not worth developing, nothing is.

Two Candidate Preferred
Polling Places Returned: 48 of 48 Turnout: 79.09% Candidate Party Votes This Election (%) Last Election (%) Swing (%)
HOWARD, John Winston Liberal 35,474 48.34 54.13 -5.79
McKEW, Maxine Labor 37,913 51.66 45.87 +5.79
So, total of 77,175 votes cast (includes informals). All 48 booths have been counted giving Maxine a lead of 2,439 votes.
But here's the question. Bennalong have an enrolled total of 97,573. That's 20,000 votes not counted.
If 60% of these votes go to the incumbent, that's 12,000 votes for Howard and 8,000 votes for Maxine.
Do the math, who wins? |
