No matter who wins the election, one has to question the intelligence of the electorate.
I'm not having a go at anyone on this board, most points have been educated and reasonable with only the outcome being disputed.
What made me post this?
Listening to some voters this afternoon and reading the letters to the editor in the West Australian ( Not a good gauge for intelligence I know, but hey )
First we've got Laurie from Gwelup....
I'm Angry
'Mr Howard, I heard you on ABC radio saying you had not met people who were angry about your Work choices legislation. ( Yes??? ) I am unaffected by these laws ( ??????????????? ) ....BUT I am incredibly angry and disheartened that your government is so blatantly supporting businesses and corporations against workers they employ
But wait there's more from this mastermind.......
Your disgusting portrayl of unions as dark and sinister force is historically inaccurate and biased....... blah , blah blah ....... it goes on with meaningless drivel and makes little, if any sense at all!
Then ther's my missus and some of her friends sipping wine and beer around the pool, their arguments for who and why were embarrassing to say the least!
People should be licensed before they can vote _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable, insightful and (what's even more inspiring) unselfish letter to me. The government IS blatantly pro-business, and HAS been depicting unions in a historically inaccurate and ideology-driven manner.
Please let me preface my question by apologising for it's stupidity in advance. See, it seems to me that you didn't express yourself at all clearly. In fact the only thing I understood was the unsubstantiated elitist garbage near the end of your post. So, even after re-reading your message 4 or 5 times, I'm still left wondering; what exactly is your problem with the woman's views?
And another thing. I think I'm able to speak for us mere mortals (this group includes your wife and her friends presumably) when I plead with you to share your particularly insightful analysis of the current political climate before we vote tomorrow.
I (and the rest of us) await your response to my two humble requests breathlessly. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

I reckon it's a good idea to steer clear of political debates...LOL i cant help myself...especially today election day!
If Howard gets re elected today, we as a nation have a lot to answer for, im going to go no further than the lies Re the Tampa boat people and the disasterous events involved that put us as a nation and people at shame, I really like Rudd i dont why i just do, but as soon as he sends the first boat load of people around he'll probably lose me forever, I want my Australia to be a caring place, i want my Australia to show great compassion, love, friendship, to those who are brave enough to seek a new home, we are a big country with plenty of room..we are indeed a very lucky country but only be geographical location.
We are all brothers and sisters in a world that is fast becoming too small, lets not believe we no responsibility for those seeking a better way, a safer home, lets not forget the kids that this present day government locked up in detention centres like wild animals, Lets not forget our very own battlers in this country treated like trash with the ever disgusting new workplace laws.
Seeya later Howard...Good Riddance!! _________________ Football is Greatness

the only thing that needs to be questioned is the actual first post.
Like sherriffe, i've read it and re-read it and can't find anything remotely wrong with the letter that Laurie wrote (or the miniscule part of it that you posted)
are you implying that because Laurie doesn't agree with your views that he's not intelligent?
If so, then that's the part where the intelligence needs to be questioned. _________________ Jacqui © Proud Pies 2003 and beyond |

Very good letter, should be many more like it.
Maybe if people were licensed to vote Skids wouldn't get one. _________________ The one man in the world, who never believes he is mad, is the madman. |

Trouble with a post like this: ok, so some people are more smart and politically aware than others.
And some people are yet smarter and more politically aware than them.
Where would you draw the line with such an elitist proposal?
I get frustrated at people who take highly simplistic political views, and at the same time realise that I am still very ignorant when it comes to many, many issues.
This is how democracy works. It may not be perfect, but it's a pretty fair system. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Well firstly he states that he hasn't heard anyone complain about AWAs then he says they don't affect him and then launches an attack on them??
If you don't understand something, it doesn't affect you and you've heard no-one criticise it how can you bag it?
As I've asked before, how many people who bag AWAs have actually laid eyes on one?
I signed one over 6 months ago, it was subjected to and passed the fairness test (was never in doubt). They are indivdual agreements between two parties, why should ALL tradespeoploe or ALL people in the same job be paid the same? shouldn't a more competent employee be rewarded and less capble one be paid less?
But it matters little now coz Kev and his millionaire missus will stuff it all. _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |
