Battle for Benoit estate could get nasty
Tuesday Sep 4 18:00 AEST
By ninemsn staff
A former girlfriend of wrestler Chris Benoit is the latest to join the complex legal battle over the estate of the man known as "the Canadian Crippler".
Wrestling websites in the US are reporting claims that a female wrestler gave birth to a daughter Benoit recognised as his after the pair's six-month fling in Edmonton in 1986.
It is understood the woman is seeking part of Benoit's estate on behalf of her daughter.
The unnamed woman joins a long line of heirs for Benoit's estate, which is said to be worth millions.
The wrestler's father, who was named administrator of his son's estate, is expected to challenge the so-called "slayer's statute" that stands in the state of Georgia.
This statute says the wrestler and his heirs cannot financially gain from the crimes he committed in suffocating his son and strangling his wife.
The estate battle hinges on whether or not Benoit killed his wife Nancy before killing their young son Daniel.
If the court determines Nancy died first, her son Daniel inherits the entire estate. Under Georgian law, his two half-siblings from his father's first marriage would then become his heirs.
If the court says Daniel died first then wife Nancy inherits the estate before her own death, meaning her family inherits the estate thereafter.
Neither Chris nor Nancy Benoit wrote a will before they died.
Nancy Benoit was found with her hands and feet bound, dead from asphyxiation. Initial reports suggested Benoit strangled his son the following day, before hanging himself in family's gym.
Nancy Benoit's family is expected to contest this sequence of events when the estate hearings get underway. |

more news:
A press conference is being held tomorrow at 10:45 a.m. (Wed U.S. Time) at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York to release findings from the examination of the brain of Chris Benoit.
Michael Benoit had given Julian Bailes, MD, the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at West Virginia University, the rights to examine his son's brain. Benoit will be speaking at the press conference along with Dr. Robert Cantu, the Director of sports Medicine at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, and Benoit's lawyer, Cary Itchter.
It is believed the findings will confirm damage that would enable a "diminished capacity" defense in Chris Benoit's slaying of his son and his wife, before killing himself. |
I had a feeling the Benoit saga was not over, this is going to be a long fight.. _________________ Ðavâgé

Did you know that quite a few wrestlers have now been suspended due to steroid use?
Benoit and Eddie Guerrero were two named, but obviously they can't be suspended, but others - Edge, Booker T, Johnny Nitro, Randy Orton, Umaga and William Regal, to name just a few - are supposedly all suspended whilst further investigations are carried out.
Orton was supposed to go up against Cena in today's RAW screening, but I missed it. _________________ Whale

Just a thing I picked up as a kid been watching since 1988, the first event from memory was Super Clash III Kerry Von Erich vs Jerry Lawler for the AWA World Title. The match was stopped because Von Erich was busted wide open and it got on from there. I enjoy the Lucha Libre the most the moves they can pull of is amazing.
I am not sure how it really stuck I was just a kid and was amused by it, of course every time I tuned into WCW on Tas TV in the early 1990s I got the old speech about it not being real and stuff that was the only reason I was allowed to watch if I sat through z lecture every time.
It was the same with movies I was allowed to watch horror movies as a kid but I had to realise they were not real...but yeah I still enjoy it not as much as I once did though. _________________ Ðavâgé

Quote: | Report: Chris Benoit's Brain Was Severely Damaged
Written by Richard Gray on Sep 5, 2007 - 10:22:24 AM
ABC News is reporting that according to Chris Benoit’s father, Michael, tests conducted by Julian Bailes of the Sports Legacy Institute revealed that Chris’ brain was severely damaged and resembled that of an 85-year-old Alzheimer patient. Bailes said that the damage was caused by chronic concussions and head trauma suffered over Benoit’s career as a professional wrestler.
As we all know, Benoit was famous for his flying headbutt off of the top roe which puts stress on the brain every time that it is executed. This study certainly could very well give us the reasons why Chris Benoit committed the acts that he did.

Quote: | Brain damage caused by a career in professional wrestling is far more likely than steroids to have caused the irrational rage that led Chris Benoit to kill his family and then himself, medical experts said yesterday.
Doctors from the Sports Legacy Institute in the United States conducted tests on the remains of the man known as the "Canadian Crippler", discovering a history of concussion.
The examination revealed Benoit's brain was pockmarked with evidence of chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), whose symptoms include depression, dementia and erratic behavior. |
Benoit was also reported to have been having episodes of paranoia as well, I would think also that the move Benoit performs off the top rope would have added to his concussion rate. A name that was mentioned in the report done by Good Morning America (on the episode that aired at 4am this morning.) was Christopher Nowinski (aka Chris Harvard) whose career was ended by post concussion syndrome.
Apparently what happened was the wrestler contacted Benoit's father and told him that they should check into seeing if the concussions he faced caused any damage to the brain, which is why they decided to run tests on the brain, this is however from what I have heard and what was said in an interview by Benoit's father.
So there is a good chance that Benoit may not have even been in control at the time of the murders, he may have had an episode, blacked out and then saw what he had done and killed himself.
I am not saying this is what happened but there is a very good chance it could have occurred. It just seems odd that even after Benoit did this a lot of people have commented that the Benoit that did this was not the one they knew..and that he was not at all himself. _________________ Ðavâgé
