Quote: | PRIME Minister John Howard has spent nearly $2 billion on government advertising and information campaigns since coming to power 11 years ago |
Quote: | since the last election in 2004, Mr Howard has spent a record $850 million of taxpayers' money on government advertising. |
Quote: | "There is clearly a massive difference between necessary government information for the community and blatant government electoral propaganda," Mr Howard said at the time. "Propaganda should be paid for by political parties |

Isn't it the states who run hospitals? What do they spend on advertising?
From the article:
Quote: | "It's also worth noting that the Howard Government is not the only offender, because our state governments are huge spenders as well." |
Quote: | "If you have a look at the campaigns we do, it's quite reasonable, especially when you consider that one state government, NSW, spent more than $110 million on advertising last year." |
How about Federal Labor
Quote: | "If you consider that in the final years of the Keating government they spent on average $100 million in real terms, the amount of $1.8 billion is not excessive," he said. |

The Feds fund hospitals. The states run them yes. But if the feds spend the money before it gets to the hospitals...............
And the
Federal Labour quote;
Quote: | said Peter Phelps, chief of staff to Special Minister of State Gary Nairn |
Only you would believe him.
Birdy, how about addressing the issue, not try and find excuses by deflection. The issue being 2 billion spent on something we don't need while our hospitals cry out for funding. |

For all the mega millions that has been spent it's just falling on death ears. Most people switch off to the adverts and have decided on how they are voting. |

meanwhile, Labour run their own ad's trying to smear people for having thei own business,
http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22350181-2,00.html?from=public_rss
Quote: | A FEDERAL Liberal candidate wants an apology for a television advertisement, which was ordered pulled off the air by Labor leader Kevin Rudd after it attacked her for being wealthy and out of touch.
Samantha McIntosh, who is standing in the Labor-held electorate of Ballarat in western Victoria, said it was hypocritical for the ALP to attack her for being a successful businesswoman when Mr Rudd's wife was a multi-millionaire.
The ad, which screened on local free-to-air television and was posted on YouTube, showed film of Ms McIntosh's home, which is also run as a bed & breakfast and is up for sale for more than $2.2 million.
It also showed a Mercedes-Benz apparently parked in the home's driveway, and claimed Ms McIntosh was out of touch with housing affordability issues in the electorate.
But Ms McIntosh said yesterday that the Mercedes was not hers and a fence in the background showed it was not parked in her driveway.
She said she drove a 12-year-old Ford stationwagon, and that showing the Mercedes was part of a "smear campaign".
"The ad attacked me and my husband for having built a successful family business," Ms McIntosh said.

I've only quoted the first part of the article.
If you go back through all of his promises over the last few months he's also going to spend a shit pile more setting up agencies to monitor supermarket prices, petrol prices, housing and everything else that can be monitored The lad is a born beaurocrat. Don't expect any hasty decisions about anything if he's elected. By the time he sets up a focus group, royal commission or agncy to investigate it'll be time for the next election. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

It's a worry, both are a joke. Labour are full of opportunists who will come into power because Howard will lose the election. Just remember Stui, core and non core promises. |

Member I'm with the others on this issue... Labor is no better on this issue (and only marginally better on any other).
The government sucks I agree, but I think you're funnelling far too much energy into this stupid forum (i say that in the nicest possible way) about this stupid election which will change absolutely nothing.
Corrupt electioneering will exist as long as liberal democracies do. _________________ I would be ashamed to admit that I had risen from the ranks. When I rise it will be with the ranks... - Eugene Debs |

You're right. Core and non-core promises, ROFLMAO.
What will be really interesting if Rudd wins is when he realises he has to start taking his own position on policies instead of being able to wait for Howard to take a stance first. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Rudd's won me!
Forget about money for hospitals.
He has promised, if elected, to give $500,000 a year, for 5 years, to the NTFL so as to field a team in either the SANFL or the WAFL. _________________ Whale

He's also announced $10 million for a GP Super Clinic in Palmerston (WTF is that by the way? ) before chatting with shoppers at a local mall and wants a national stadard drug testing regime for all sports. he's spending money hand over fist and wants to nationalise control of every thing.
Don't fart Dale, If kevy hears about it he'll pledge to triple the number of EPA inspectors and start monitoring the air quality around peoples rear ends. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Stui, Palmerston is (or was) the Footscray of Darwin.
Want drugs? You can get almost anything in Palmerston.
The only good thing Palmerston has going for it is the footy team, the Palmerston Magpies. _________________ Whale
