Post subject: Canberra to seize control of Murray | |
|
Howard and Co will push through legislation to cease control of the river system. Brack's refuses to sign on the dotted line until the Federal Government reveals more detail and suggest Bracks is dragging his feet. There is no doubt plenty of party politics flowing here from both sides and with the Federal Government controlling both houses of Parliament will see their legislation pass. Whether it will be constitutional or not will no doubt be decided in the high court and after the Federal Election. The constitutional lawyers will no doubt be rubbing their hands together for the Christmas bonus that is coming their way.
As always the devil will be in the detail and none is being revealed.
I am no Brack’s fan and in saying that he is spot on the money. This is an issue for the people to decide. A referendum should be called. You’re thought’s and it will be interesting to see the view from people in different states. |

I grew up on the Murray. I thinks Bracks has stuffed this up big time. All of the other state premiers have signed up and the irrigators who live in the Goulbourn Valley seem to be much more in favour of Howards plan than Bracks plan to pipe the water to Melbourne.
I'd be happy to see control of the murray/Darling system in the hands of the Commonwealth rather than being frigged around by different state premiers. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Good point Stui, the Government won't be in control of it under their plan. It will be a private company. |

As long as the company has a charter t do the best thing by all rather than swing and sway to political pressure (from any side) then it would be for the best IMO. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

rofl, having seen what privatisation does to this states utilities it won't happen. It will be user pays and shareholder profits that rule what they do. Nothing to do with politcal pressure when money is involved and that goes for both sides of politics. |

Yet to see any agreement here for Howards plan. Why? Because we don't know what the plan is.
The devil is in the detail and the detail is being held away from public gaze. I would go as far to say that in this case Bracks has the Valley's support. |

Are all the other Labor politicians including the Premiers and Rudd dumber than Bracks?
I dont think so.
Bracks is just grandstanding as usual.
He should worry more about his own family and how they are going off the rails.

How can you associate Bracks being a bad parent because what happened with his son? Disgraceful and if you check Howard's family one of his kids ran off the rails and we have current Federal ministers and former ministers who's kids have lost the plot. The best parent cannot control outside factors like who their children associate with etc. Hope when you have kids and they stuff up then you can be a bad parent too. |

So the people in the valley are happy with Bracks' plan to pipe their water to Melbourne? That's news to me. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

2 different issues stui.
I suggest you check out John Corboy to see the support that the Bracks pipe plan has.
If you don't know who John is, google him.
You might want to check out the food bowl alliance, these are the farmers and business people who actually submitted the plan to the State Goverment. Yes, that's right, the plan was devised in the Goulburn Valley, by Goulburn Valley people.
Bet your City media didn't tell you that! |

Yes, that is why the farmers were protesting in the heart of Shepparton last week. They "love" Adolph Bracks up there.
